As with the official announcement of Doom 4 - and of course being one of the few here at this forum who actually enjoyed it, I decided to run through the 3'rd game again because the last time I played were years ago. Anyone else doing the same, just did it or thinking about it?

Here's a few mini-modifications that I recommend to spice up the game a bit.

6th Venom's Doom 3 HQ Mainmenu - Completely new and redesigned menu, and in game HUD, making it look much sharper and overall better plus more resolutions to choose from and more options.

Trent Reznor Sound Pack - Rejoice! Makes the games weapons not sound like soft air guns anymore, many of the monsters sound different and that incredible annoying Imp shriek is no more.

Parallax Mapping Mod - Self-explanatory. You could also try this although I haven't tried it so not sure if it's any better.

Denton's Enhanced Doom3 - Haven't tried yet, includes a lot of new stuff and enhancements (and the DBS '_' ).

Any more good ones? :D

Last Man Standing Co-op.

Last Man Standing Coop Mod is a Doom 3 Coop Single Player and Multiplayer modification that aims to bring back the classic Doom experience. The LMS Mod gametype is survival in nature where you face swarms of attacking monsters to the adrenaline pumping energy of heavy metal soundtracks. This mod also fully supports Single Player Cooperative play through the SP Coop gametype. Also the Doom 3 expansion pack is supported through the ROE coop gametype and the Classic Doom for Doom 3 Mod is supported through the gametype Cdoom Coop.

Some of the features of this release include:
o Windows (including the steam version), Mac and Linux Compatible
o Over ten new LMS SP Coop easter eggs to find!
o New Map TS_HellPentagram.
o Now features over 80 maps tweaked for Cooperative play!
o Upgraded to the heavily optimized 1.3.1 Classic Doom for Doom 3 Maps
o Heavily Improved New Supermaggot skin! Also new menu and wrench icons.
o Portals added so players don't get left behind on train maps.
o Spawns have been significantly tweaked to reduce or eliminate telefragging.
o Training Simulation maps (TS_) have been updated and fixed.
o Numerous SP Coop tweaks and fixes to optimize your gaming experience.

Awesome stuff.

Played an early version of LMS a few years ago in LAN with my bro, it was quite fun but we only had one good enough computer to run the game at a acceptable framerate and of course I had to play it on the crappy one.

Anyway, made it to Delta Labs now (probably the best maps in the game). The Trent Reznor pack makes every weapon so much more fun to use. The machine gun no longer sounds like a typewriter! :E

I replayed both Doom3 and D3:RoE on veteran difficulty a couple of months ago and had a good time, despite feeling a little under challenged. Both games were pretty easy tbh even on the veteran setting apart from the final boss in RoE.

I used Dentons enhanced Doom3 for the first game. I was disappointed though that there wasn't a version of the mod for D3:RoE.

Although Doom3 doesn't quite have the intense, non-stop action I loved from the original Doom games, I still enjoyed it thorougly and am waiting for Doom 4. I hope this time, they'll address the difficulty issue by making the action closer to the original(s) and have thousands of demons on-screen at once, rather than the closet monster stuff others have mentioned in other threads.

I don't scare easily. I'm too much a blood thirsty beast in games myself to worry about shit like, "scary atmosphere". :p
I perfer "in-your-face" action games.

Delta Labs and Hell are quite awesome, despite the rest of the game. I would play it again tbh.

hmm i had been working on a mod for D3 for a LONG time, but stopped. I wanted to finish it by 06-06-06 and upload it at midnight - thought that would be .. .. festive... .. but it's well beyond that now.

I eventually teamed up with JCDenton through email, who implemented awesome new source code that affects physics and other cool stuff.

It's got a new GUI, 1000's of new sounds and even new code for sounds that weren't in the game - new HUD, new menu/title screen, new weapons pick ups like a mac-10, double barrel, and chain shotgun (though that is a cheat gun - for fun).

New monsters like the vulgar from RoE, and the Hazmat suit guy, along with a zombie wearing the damaged medical suit - complete with flashlights on the helmets of these suits.

1000's of new skins - for example, nearly every spider in the game was uniquely skinned. there are different monster AI and stats for each monster. LIke there is one type of imp you will encounter that only crawls on all 4's.. there are monsters that are on fire, and other particle effects like auras.

all kinds of cool stuff like when you equip the soul cube, your hands turn all wrinkly and ancient looking.

nearly every particle in the game I spent hours improving each one. little particles come out of explosions and such.

improved the weapon skins, level wall and floor textures for some places, and all kinds of stuff.

IIRC there is a couple of bugs in it where i was working on a new idea, and need to either get it working or take it out of the game. so the mod isn't done. Maybe I should try to quickly fix any bugs and upload it while I'm on vacation.

the sound mod part of it is fully working, so I could probably test it (it's been a long time since I even booted up doom 3), and upload that within the next couple of days and put it on a torrent site.

I can record a section of gameplay and upload an MP3 as a sample of what to expect if anyone is curious. I've got two variations.

One variation isn't really acceptable because it's got sound effects ripped from saving private ryan, with bullet impacting various materials like metal, wood, flesh, everything. quite amazing sound mod IMHO. even without that part, It's quite awesome - at least I love it. Teh gun sounds are some of the best ever heard if you ask me. THat is something that I spent the most time on, because it's the sound you hear the most, so I constantly was working on it.
