this game is exellent when i was playing it it was so good that i was up all night playing it so scary in the dark though :)

10/10

Agreed, damned scary game first time through. :) Too bad they didn't bother with a decent multiplayer (co-op dammit) on the PC version.

Half life fan boyism aside, i didn't find it very scary. In fact, i was rather bored. I think its because the dark, and enemies jumping out of handily placed lockers and doors 2 seconds after you have opened them just doesn't appeal to me. And it becomes a common theme in the games linear levels.

Ravenholm didn't scare me either. The dark is not a scary place. If you want scary, go play System shock 2 :D

The only thing i liked about it, was the Saboath design and the uber brilliant blue SMG. Twas lurrrrvley.

I here, still play it often, SP & MP. I'm going through it in my 3rd try through Nightmare, & can't wait for the expansion.

The netcode will be improved for the expansion pack though, so that is a good thing. Also there will be new maps & a CTF mode.

And as for it not being scary, for the most part I agree, because you're paranoid going through the whole game & expecting scares.

Still one of the best games I've ever played.

Loved Doom 3, cant wait for expansion.

The game can startle me occasionally, sometimes its frantic fighting off mobs that are coming at you from all angles.. It reminds me of the movie aliens or something.

It can be intense, thats the good times, but I agree overall HL2 is a much better experience.

If you want scary as hell, try Silent Hill 2. That game will freak you out. I find Silent Hill 3 to be very UN-scary.. and SH4.. i dont know about

Am I the only person who thinks that this is kind of a totally random-ass thread? I thought Doom 3 was old news for most people.

Anyway, I never beat the game, considering it only started working on my laptop last week (I love you, Omega Drivers.)

Scariest game i've ever played. It was easy now that i think about it, but it was hard enough trying to work up the nerve to walk into the next room.

It's embarrassing; the only scare I received from Doom III was from the ...

Imp in the monster gallery

... and I was even waiting for it to happen.

I ended up cheating through to the end by the time I reached Hell, as the game had just become too tedious. I will say this, however: I don't believe any other FPS has achieved what Doom III has. There was some level of detail or cohesion in the art design and engine effects that provided a sense of realism that I've never seen before in a game. I don't know anything about the technical details of id's latest engine, but after having seen how it was employed in Doom III, I think a pretty sizeable step in the progress toward video-realism has been achieved.

Or so it seemed to me.

My arse it was easy, System Shock 2 was really hard IMO. Your weapons kept deteriorating way too fast.

There is something HUGE incorporated into the game engine, I can't describe it other than LARGE graphics. feels like more bits!

I think it has something to do with the in-game menu's and interactivity with the computers in the game, and the scripted scenes.

I don't condone drug use for it will for shurley ruin your life, and I quit years ago, but I decided to fry up a little weed with my roomate for old times sake.. let me tell you..

I was playing D3 with the sound all the way up, in one part where you hit the airlock and go outside onto mars, and you are trying to find the next airlock while defending yourself from hell's minions... the graphics, the sound, it was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had in my simple life. Mars is increadible.

I agree, they put something in the water that makes this game so dope.

/me goes play D3 =D

I find it quite difficult. Especially fighting things such as robots, with little to no bullets.

silent hill 2 is an AMAZING game....

silent hill 3 is very disturbing i think though...it didn't scare me so much but there are some very chilling things in it...the pictures of the mouth, valtiel (shakey head monster), the alternate hospital, the tipped wheelchair with the wheel still spinning.....

nasty but great game

That game was worth playing just to look at. It got wayyyyyy too repeititve though.

agree with the above, i've all but given up on doom now, the graphics are certainly awesome, but some of the textures just look nasty to me, i can pretty much guess 95% of the "make you jump" moments now and it's just a tedious wait for the next "oh my god, a monster... *gunfire*" moment. currently playing NFSU2 and loving every moment, waiting for UT2004:)

YES YES!!!!! that was excellent....ONE of my best gaming moments
lol just wondering did you scream towards the end of the game when in the chapel area you walk into a room with 3 scrapers, scared the shite outta me,totally wasnt expecting it.

sh3 was great imo,my only sh game i own,the 'stalker' in the mental hospital was great too, what was his name again?the hospital was really great, particurly the alternate part, the game was sorta waining up to that point but after that its estimation went way up imo.doom3 has nothing on the sh series in terms of atmosphere

insert question mark here

When Doom 3 first came out, everyone was saying how ace it was. Then the repetivness kicked in and most people barely got to hell. It takes a few days to get bored of it.

Im currently playing Mercenaries on Xbox and I started playing Battlefield Vietnam again on PC. I liked Doom 3 for a few hours but then it got boring and repetitive. It was all like "Monster jumps out. Shoot monster. Repeat ad infinitum". Got boring

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I heart this guy *drools over co-op*

You guys are bringing back extremely frightening experiences. System shock 2 (*big shudder*)....silent hill 2(*super shudder*.........please don't mention They Hunger (oops! AHHHHH!!!)

And BTW doom 3 was not scary. I was not scared one time through the game save for one time in the beginning

Like I've said, it's because you're paranoid & expecting scares throughout the whole game

Sorry but doom3 was rubbish. I have tried to play it three times now and get bored with it.
It is not scary but repetative.
I even tried deathmatch and that was boring too.

Me and my brother are playing it singleplayer co-op and it's pretty fun, just too bad the LMS team aren't supporting the SP maps so it's quite buggy (like if you pick up a PDA, you can't put it down).

I thoroughly enjoyed Doom 3. Admitted, it's not got as long a lifespan as HL2 has for me (I prefer HL2's modding and engine), but it was a fantastic game.

There was something about those tentacle guys that really unnerved me.

Although, nothing can compare with the eldrich, unexplanable feeling of horror that the original Doom games filled me with. It wasn't fear in the standard sense. It was just something about the way as, when you progress, the environments got progressively weird. Freaked me out. Especially 'The Spirit World' level in Doom 2. The way that was made just makes me shudder. The only parts of Doom 3 that really recaptured that fear was the organic wall bits.

Oh, and the music that plays when you fight the Icon of Sin in Doom 2. That thoroughly freaks me out.

I can't remember where exactly i read it, but i was reading this guys review of the game, and he basically said Doom 3 took all the good parts of other games like Undying and System Shock 2, and then put them in a blender, and i couldn't help but agree.

The blender must have been faulty then, because it was pulled off half - assed. :p

In my honest opinion :D
