From what I can make of the article it seems that id are developing a new IP as their next game. Which would mean that the "name that people recognize" would be developed by a third party. We all know how much they love new engines so anyone want to bet on Duke Nukem?

Hexen, Heretic, okay, but I wasn't really a huge fan of either game. Give me a Plasma rifle over a holy water sprinkler anyday.

As they say it will be a name that people recognize I've got to go with the crowd and say Duke Nukem.

Id software is not developing RTCW 2 but are currently looking for a developer.
And Zerox, I didn't mean Quake 4 is Quake 2 with the Doom III engine.
