Well i was wondering if Doom III will be like HL2 in that it will be able to run on an 800 Mhz processor and 16mb video card. my rig is far from being the best for gaming but I would like to play Doom III when it comes out.

You can play it no problem, but just don't expect to play 1600x1200 resolution and w/ all the highest texture details...;)
HL2's current minimum req was a P3 700 I believe. and a DX8 card and 128 MB ram.:D
G'day.

HEY! That's not a low-end system! I have the same one (nearly the same one) and it rocks!

The minimum system requirements for Doom3 are a 1Ghz+ CPU, 256MB RAM, GeForce1 or Radeon7000+ video card. It will be playable with such a system, but that's not really the way it's meant to be played, so to speak. Heh.
But with your system you should be able to run it at something like medium detail.

Found this video at a forum.

This guy is playing Doom III on a Geforce 3, I don't know if it's the leaked alpha, but it's really impressive.

EDITED OUT LINK

I don't know about 800Mhz w/ 16MB video card. "But with your system you should be able to run it at something like medium detail." -Arno Are you sure about that? I had a laptop that had around the same specs and it played CS alright... Play Doom 3 with that computer? especially 16MB video card? You can try it but expect wolfenstein 3D graphics.

Ah yes, and welcome to Halflife2.net!

He was referring to his system specs in his sig, I had to check that over too.. I was like "there's no way he can run that at medium.. uhh.."

So, I went back and checked the original post, low and behold, he has a faster system than what he was asking about

i heard doom3 going to be pretty hard on your system

That'd be remarkably stupid if most people wouldn't be able to run it.

well considering how long both games have been in development they should scale back pretty effing far

btw dont expect anything but the best from newell and carmack + teams

makes sense why would you want to shut your game off to a narrower part of the market. they'll want to make it playable on the lowest spec machine possible. but ID's origional statement sounds about right

If you have to turn off the fancy shadows and/or the normal maps to play Doom III on your machine (as I've heard people say about the alpha) you probably shouldn't even bother with it. If a game depends so heavily on those features it would look like crap without them.

Yeah, that might have been a bit confusing. With the 800mhz processor remark Dra was referring to the HL2 minimum system requirements. His own PC is quite a bit faster then that.
