They are a bit on the grainy side, but they are fine as far as scans go. Im sure better quality ones will be around soon.

Looks amazing.

mrBadgerEDIT: Sorry guys, but this is illegal

Hm... Really makes me wonder... Where do you find a chainsaw and a german army helmet in space? Its mind boggling!

I like the volumetric light from that guys torch, I hope they use it for other lights as well.

Janitors cuboard.

Yeah, Doom 3 is looking really cool. I just read the world exclusive article in my new issue of CGW.

Nice post, Pseudonym_.

This game is looking quite nice.

Brian Damage, I think they did up the polygon count a little, especially on the Tentacle/Chaingun Zombie. I really like that "Flaming" Zombie, those flames look as good as Hl2's...even a little better, now that I think about it.

Sorry guys, you know it's true.

I wonder if that flaming zombie is the new version of that flamey-dude from Doom 2. Y'know, the one that used to hit you with a firestorm all the time.

The Archvile? If so, no it's not. The Archvile has been shown already. It's not a zombie it's a demon. Ill try to find a pic.

Yeah, the Archvile was shown in the Dec 2002 issue of PC Gamer...He looks quite wicked!

Wow, a D3 thread that hasn't turned into a flame war...

I think they all look wicked. Literally :E.

Here is the Archvile. He resurrects fallen hellspawn and Incinerates poor marines just like the original dooms.

So he's going to be just as much of a pain in the neck?

Cool.

Isn't posting magazine scans technically illegal? I mean, sure, it's a German magazine, but, all the HL2 magazine scans posted have been removed

Anyhow, it's looking fantastic.. I'm not sure where Ghost got the idea that HL2's fire looked good, though lol

I know, I was just saying that not many of us here live in Germany, but that shouldn't make a difference

Well, in the past the mods only seemed concerned with scans of HL2, so I didn't think it would be a problem posting these here. One mod even told me "Nice post".

*EDIT*

Oh. In that case, heres something for you to look at. A shot of the MP map featured at quakecon, but without the ugly redness.

http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/2/0,3363,sz=1&i=29571,00.jpg

Thats what the map looks like when the Laser thingy isn't going full blast and lighting the map in a red glow.

Sorry, its not terribly interesting, but didn't want to leave this thread totally void of pics and it's the only new legal pic around.

cool that map doesnt look half bad , i thought it was horrible before with all the redness , but now i like it

Pseudonym_ - PM me the links please, would like to see the scans.

Does anyone know a website with these NEW* screenshots on it?

pseudonym posted a few mag scans of d3 that got removed.
thats it. pity too coz they were pretty good

*looks behind his back to make sure ID police ain't watching*

I need scans to.... :)

ya... i need the weed you said you'd give me.... oh, you're sending D00M 3 scans... not weed... are u sure?.... well, ok... those will do...

please??? ;(

Hey Pseudo , please PM me the scans aswell! I'll give you some HL2 neatness in return.... :cheese:

When it's encouraged by moderators that links to copywritten materials are passed around privately, then it the should be handled consistently and without exceptions to the rule. Asking for private links to the latest Half-Life 2 scans from PC Gamer would be akin to stirring up a hornet's nest by current standards.

Private messages are meant to be private, and we expect the moderators not to look at them. It essential to have trust between the moderators and forum members. Besides, private messages protect HL2.net from any legal action by the magazine publisher.

Call it a personal thing, nietzsche but I've never cared for the no scan pics rule nor have I ever enforced it. I don't mind other moderators enforcing it but I personally won't make a big deal out of something I'll see pasted all over irc in 48 hours anyway.

If PCGAMER want to sue me for looking at grainy pictures taken by someone who doesn't know how to work a scanner ( soz - used to work in a professional photolab - high standards. ) then they know how to contact me.

Here is some tantalizing little nuggets of info from the CGW mag. Hope it's ok to post this. I will only post small quotes so as not to break any forum rules(hopefully). Mods, I apologize if this is out of line.

Now, I left out the most interesting piece of the article, which is a very major story spoiler(I think). Be warned, if you go buy and read this issue, that you will get spoiled. I dont care anything about reading spoilers, infact I activly seek spoilers out, but even I regretted reading the spoilers in this article. Once again, i left them out so if you want to check it out buy the magazine(or do some searching online).

In the same building that houses the office of the mayor of Mesquite, Texas, sits the unassuming headquarters of Id Software

Nothing to do with Doom³, but I did not know this and thought someone might find it interesting....

But there’s no time to see the sights, as a couple of revenants start launching plasma balls and a demon floats overhead......

Floating demons? Hmm, sounds like the Cacodemon might make an appearence after all, which was never confirmed and many doubted it would......

Next come waves of zombie security guards armed with shotguns. A couple shots connect, sending you reeling.
This is one part of the game that surprised me-the visceral feel of each blow. Whether you get slashed by a zombie or take a shotgun blast to the grill, your “head” snaps away, making it tough to focus and aim properly for a few seconds. And, thanks to the per-poly hit detection, the strength of that shot and the subsequent blow varies. Some bits hit your armor, but the strays that actually connect with flesh are going to do more damage…and every projectile is precisely calculated with the physics engine, whether you’re taking potshots or just knocking out the glass from a window.

Very neat.

The art in Doom 3 looks like an H.R. Geiger nightmare. Lead artist Kenneth Scott starts by showing the cast of prezombified characters, each with different types of head and effects. He uses a blending technique to shift a woman from the normal state to a sallow zombie. “Early shots we’ve sent out only have a couple zombies in them. People are probably thinking they all look alike, but they don’t,” says Scott. There are lots of gruesome ways to die, and they’ll all be on display. Various chunks from a body could be missing, an exposed skull here, no stomach there. Then there are some personal favorites, like the security guards who still wear cracked goggles after their eyeballs have burst. There are effects also being added to some, like “Burnie,” for example. This zombie model has flames licking off parts of his body, and you can see the charred flesh underneath.

I know some people were having doubts that there would be much variation between zombies, since we have only seen the Skinny/Fat/Chainsaw ones so far.

But this is saying nothing of the bigger, tougher denizens of hell........Thing-inspired trites that make Half-Life’s headcrabs look like the catch of the day, and lots of as-yet-unnamed creatures.

lol, I just had to include that. Don't get started with your "arrogant id assholes" flames, it was the journalist who said that not an id employee......

A huge monstrosity fills the screen for a split second. “Oops, I don’t think I was supposed to show you that!” The unarmed Jurassic demon is so big it can’t be seen in it’s entirety in one screen. While Scott can’t go into detail on what it is, he assures me that this isn’t the final boss. Now that’s a scary thought.

Reminds me of the huge scale of some Quake4 enemies we have seen in the Quake4 concept art, lovin it.....

“The fact that we include all the tools, source maps, and textures on the disc is big. This is the first time this has been done.” You won’t get the 3d modeling (Lightwave) and animation (Maya) tools that we used, but there are light versions and free programs available on the Web. “Because of the things the engine can do, we can expect to see some great things [from the modding community]”.

Doom 3 may be intentionally slow-paced, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get some serious speed. The physics engine allows for vehicles, if desired. You can also get fast and furious combat, as in the upcoming Quake 4. (Duffy confirmed that Raven Software is working on Quake 4 right now in tandem with the id folks, but other than that, mum’s the word.)

The single-player game may be intentionally slow, but the pace is kicked up for multiplayer.

Fun Facts: The face of the space marine you control in the game is that of Kevin Cloud, artist and co-owner of Id Software. Nobody has told him yet.

Fun Facts: The shotgun from the original Doom was actually modeled on a plastic toy gun. It still sits in Id's lobby.

I live in Dallas. I think I'll go visit id. SoftWare in the next month or so.

Shall I?

that was a good post, I thank you for that. And your name is cool too, so you must be awesome.

kinda hyped up for d3 now. I imagine that should be fun really, I haven't seen anything saddeningly gory for a while.

I wonder what the new Cacodemons will look like. I hope they change them because the old ones look too cartoony, while everything in Doom 3 looks gruesome and scary.
