:bounce: I am trying to figure out how to speed up my downloads. Right now I am only getting about 4 kbps and it is annoying the hell out of me. I have tried to log into my router and open up port 6881 and I have disabled all firewalls on my computer. Is there anyone that can walk me through theses steps so I can actually accomplish something?

You can only download as fast as your source can upload.

You could also be choking your upload stream. IIRC you need atleast 9kb up bandwidth for your download speeds to be normal. If your running P2P software you may want to try lowering the amount of kbs you are uploading.

Failing that it could ba a problem at your telephone exchange, in which case it's out of your hands.

Reducing upload speed now. More q's to come

I am on a 100 Mbps DSL through Yahoo. I have disabled my firewalls and will now try to reduce my upload speed and see what happens. :bounce:

Hello and Welcome!

and yeah, you need to give more information

Port 6881? Sounds as if you're using torrent - if you haven't, get a decent host like bittornado, as it makes firewall checking a lot easier.

You need to give more information when you ask questions like this :)

What program are you using to download?

What's the real speed of your connection? ( Judging by the fact that you're on Yahoo, you're with B.T, which means your connection speed is likely 2mbps downstream and 256 up due to their recent upgrades )

Don't even talk to me about download speeds, I'd be lucky to download 1mb in an hour. New Zealand sucks in that respect.
