Downloading Custom Maps?

I've tried connecting to Counterstrike:Source servers running experimental custom maps, and while trying to connect it throws up the following error:

"Missing map <whatever>, disconnecting"

Does Source not support downloading of maps you don't already have? As i'm about to restart my mapping projects a la source, it's kinda important to know how to distribute them.

Does anyone know if this will be supported? or are we gonna have to pre-emptively download custom maps?
 
people that host custom map servers dont like people to download, if they did, the server will lag up, i know in regualr cs, people download maps, but in css, there is like no custom maps, so if there is a server, everyone will try to join, like 10 people downloading at same time=bad

That link doesnt work KtimeKiller. I would really like a dependable place to DL CS:S maps though.
 
i found the biggest number of custom maps around is on www.csbanana.com :) unfortunately a couple seem to be corrupt but the majority of them seem to work..

I know what you mean though jest@.. CS and HL always used to support the server providing maps (and ktimekiller the servers can limit the amount of bandwidth to put aside for this purpose so it doesn't cause a problem)... it's a shame they took this out.. or maybe it's an optional thing :)
 
aha, problem solved, possibly

adding this line to your config.cfg file in the counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg folder will, according to the lads at interlopers.net, allow downloads:

cl_allowdownloads "1"

Well, looks like it'll work! havent actually tried it yet though. And also, the server has to have the opposite side (cl_allowuploads, unsurprisingly) set to 1 as well. Dunno if that's set by default, so maybe most servers don't bother yet.

yeah, custom map sources tend not to allow uploads, but it's still a vital way of spreading a map, cos quite a lot of secondary ones do. otherwise most of us'd never have been treated to most of the customs we've played (although in some cases that might have been a good thing - wonder how long it'll be till the first matrix lobby scene is made for source :p )

There might be download crushes at first, but once the source mapping community gets on its feet, they'll be available easily enough. still waiting on the full SDK though, dammit!
