Downloading off Steam

If you download your copy of Half-Life 2 off the Steam client and then at some point after that you have to re-install windows therefore losing all the Half-Life 2 stuff...are you still able to download it a second time? Or would you have to store it somewhere on another drive or something?

you can download it a secondtime, but most people prefer to write the cache or information files to a CD before they re-install because then you dont have to redownload them again.
