A loan officer (Lohman) ordered to evict an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse, who turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.

Somewhat excited for it.
The PG-13 rating has me a little worried though.

Nice title, but it can't be a real horror if it's PG-13. Unless raters don't consider if the story is disturbing in nature when rating a movie? ...I highly doubt that.

Then again The Goonies somehow was rated PG... D:

Just watched this trailer this past weekend. Looks great. Might be horrible, but worth giving a try....

Ehhhh, I dunno about this. Looks like it is trying to be a more intense/serious "The Frighteners" type movie.

It looked dumb to me on the TV trailers, but I love horror movies, and this is apparently getting decent reviews thus far, so I'm definitely considering going to see it.

It definitely has an Evil Dead vibe to it.
If it's as hilarious and over the top as those were, I don't think we'll be very disappointed.

I ****ing hate modern horror films.

They're so ****ing cliche and predictable.

Things that noticeably piss me off about this trailer?

The whole "turn and scream" cliche... where somebody turns and a scary monster pops out and goes BOO!

And linked to that, is the response that the victim always gives... a terrified scream.

Why can't we have a horror film where somebody turns in their bed and instead of the creepy terrifying monster lunging at the person, it just sits there staring at them looking evil and wicked or some shit.

And instead of the person screaming in a most predictable way, why not have them sit there with a rapidly growing look of terror on their face. Lips trembling, eyes tearing up... whimpering. True fear that robs you of the power to scream.

But no. We get this stupid shit. Granted, what I described above doesn't make a better movie, but it breaks from these stupid cliches a bit.

Any Sam Raimi horror movie is anything but cliche.

I'm seeing this on Friday.

Explain to me the turn and scream then! Explain to me the lunge!

I'll take what I said back; not 100%, I just need to explain it a little more.

The Evil Dead series is heavily made up of cliches. But that's the point. And they way they are used creates a whole new experience. If you've never seen The Evil Dead, Raz, explaining it with words would do much.

Pretty much.
Sam Raimi's horror movies are fairly unique.

They're completely over the top and usually have a really weird sense of humor.

They're sort of parodies of themselves, but still mostly deliver the goods that every horror movie strives for.
Which is scaring the crap out of you.

The problem with most horror movies is the same problem with most horror games. Things that jump out aren't scary. They are surprising and sometimes annoying. It takes real atmosphere and skill to produce and environment that actually evokes terror. It doesn't look to me like this movie will be able to do that.

Also Sam Raimi is an incredibly lousy (mediocre at best) director and an even worse writer, especially with character. And his brother is no better. I expect this movie will suck.

Well, I'm easily startled so I'm sure it'll make me a jump a fair amount.

Yeah but that's... not horror. That's surprise. And surprise is shitty. Any ****ing idiot can film something like that.

Then maybe horror may be a bad descriptor for Sam Raimi's movies. Afterall, according to your definition, it would be rather hard to balance laughs with "terror"; which is what he does.

Good horror is very hard to come by for me. The kind of horror I like is the deep psychological horror, that leaves you thinking about it for days later and when you wake up and go to the bathroom at night, and all the lights are off, you feel a little creeped out.

Needless to say, there aren't a lot of movies I consider good horror. I agree that stuff jumping out at you is not really scary for me, and gore isn't necessarily scary on it's own... I don't know, maybe I'm weird but I guess my tolerance for scares is quite a bit higher than some peoples. (IE: I didn't get why people found Doom 3 and FEAR scary, at all).

Which is why I'm a little skeptical about this movie, based on the trailers.

Evil Dead was just campy horror, which to me seemed meant to be just for laughs. I take it back, I guess Evil Dead 1 took itself more seriously, while the others that followed got more and more goofy and campy, intentionally.

When I first saw this, I thought it was kinda silly. Not really expecting anything real good, but I'll give it a shot.

The thing I love about quicktime and horror movies, is it lets me scroll through the trailer, one crystal clear frame at a time. So all the scary stuff I can analyze.

Boo.

I thought it looked pretty cheesy, I don't think I'll be paying $10 to see it.

All this does is highlight why good film editing is sought after.

Looks fine to me.
Over analyzing a horror movie is just stupid, I'm going to go see it just because I've never seen a movie like Evil Dead in theaters, probably going to have a hell of a time too.

I'm genuinely surprised at how many people have never seen The Evil Dead.

I'm not.
It's really a cult movie, it seems like only people who actually scour the internet for horror movies would actually know of its existence.

Maybe you're right. Pretty popular within my group of friends, so I probably got the wrong idea.

Theres a horror movie that just came out called A haunting in something or other I already forgot the title the movie kind of sucked but one part of the movie really stood out for me and I like it when directors try something new.

You know that whole cliche where a character will be exploring a house or some building and in the backround you'll see something move across the hallway or just make some kind of motion and its supposed to make you all "OH SHIT BEHIND YOU BEHIND YOU"?

Well the character in the movie is wandering around his house and hes exploring hallways and you're just waiting for the obligatory *shadowy figure silently moves in backround* to happen when the shadowy figure walks RIGHT INFRONT OF THE ****ING GUY. I thought that was pretty cool.

Also I want to see this.

A Haunting in Connecticut you bitch. Dont dis my home state man, not cool, not cool at all.

I WAS TOO LAZY TO LOOK IT UP.

When A Haunting in New Jersey comes out feel free to forget its name :O
