Dragon Quest IX is out!

how long of a game is it?? I like my RPGs short nowadays

Might look into it. I did like DQ VIII for it's story, setting, and art direction.

I just hope they've got some new tricks up their sleeves this time. If it's another standard turn-based JRPG, I might pass.

Got it earlier today, though have not played that much thanks to the World Cup final that just got over. What I have played has been terrific though. DQVIII is one of my favorite RPGs of all time and this continues in the same vein (though in a different way). Easily my game of the summer (along with Fifa World Cup 2010 South Africa). :)

EDIT: Have been playing for roughly 7 hours and I can safely say that it is my favorite DS game yet! Call me a sucker, but I LOVE the DQ formula and probably always will.

Ok, bumping this to see if anyone else has been playing this???

I am roughly 50 hours in now and I just completed the main story yesterday. Now I am focusing on finding new treasure maps, bettering my characters, and building great new stuff with the alchemy pot. I did some multiplayer at the Best Buy DQIX event near me this weekend and it was awesome. Got down to level 14 of one of the tougher grottoes before we had to evac so we could get more tags and increase our Inn capacity. :) Needless to say I am totally obsessed with this game and would love if anyone else here is too. :imu:

Also, if anyone lives near Philadelphia, PA (USA), let me know if you know of anywhere you can get some good tags or if you want to arrange a walk-by. I will be checking out the South Street area today to see what there might be.

By the way, if anyone was curious, this is now the exact purpsoe of the internet.

My room mate got this and is playing it. That's all I know about it. I remember watching him play Dragon Quest VIII and that was pretty cool. I will prolly pick it up sometime.

I'm saving this for a holiday i'm going on next month with a bunch of friends. Sun bathing and swimming during the day, Dragon Quest and movies at night :)

Quick question - I know much effort has been put into the multiplayer side of things this time round, but is it possible to play the entire game in multiplayer?

Yup, I think it is. Of course, that means finding someone else to pal around with for roughly 40 hours lol! (I wish I had someone like that. ;()

I am at right around 60 hours now and finished my first grotto last night and boy was the boss fight epic. Revocated everyone to level one in various jobs this morning on the commute and by the end of the train ride I was at lvl 20 for everyone. Good times.

Is the dress-up element fun?

That's basically all I care about.

Hahaha! Yup. It sure is. There is a TON of stuff to find on top of the TON of stuff you can make that is rare, super-rare, and ultra-rare. A seriously incredible amount of clothing combinations. I can't be bothered to look put-together though. I look at stats and that's it...though I think when I finally get everyone to lvl. 99 then MAYBE I will just have them play dress-up and go around whooping ass while in bikinis and knickers and kilts and such. :) I love that you can get all the clothing from characters from past DQ games too. In fact, Angelo (DQ8), has a room of his own in my Inn in Stornway. He gave me a nice little suit. Alena (DQ4) is there too. Very cool. I think every week a different character can appear if you log-in to the Nintendo wi-fi DQVC in-game. Rare items for sale and cool guests. This game is packed with insane value!!

40 hrs in seven days will be pushing it indeed!
Good lord. Yeah, you should not try to schedule any sleep for this holiday because DQ IX will not let you have any.
