I have a friend who is a big fan of Dragonforce and they are playing in Newcastle on the 1st of February. I've heard some of their stuff and it sounds really cool, but I'm not really a massive metal fan; dream theater is as hardcore as I get.

Would I be likely to get arse raped (read: trampled massively upon) if I went to this gig? 1 - I am a wuss, 2 - the last gig I went to, I was seated ()

I doubt very much you'd get 'arse raped' at a gig such as Dragonforce. The worst earlier this year was my freind with a viking helmet and a plastic sword, so you might expect something like that, but it wasn't really a rough gig at all.

I couldn't imagine being seated at the earls court muse gig, somehow my friends did :/

Haha my friend told me about vikings. I really do want to see them, but I'm just a gig noob :p

And sepith, it was at earls court I was seated ;( wish I hadn't have done that!

Power Metal gigs tend to be a little more passive than others, so you should be alright. Besides, resisting and pushing around several hundred other bodies around you is part of the fun!

They put on a good show, get the crowd moving and all that jazz. I wish I'd known more of their songs, though. I got my ticket at the time that there was barely any gigs around at the time, and I do love going to gigs. Ticket was cheap anyway so I went along with some mates. Good show. But again, wish I knew more songs by them. I've only heard, what, 3 or 4? I dunno.

I saw Dragonforce when they were still called DragonHeart and were supporting Stratovarius in the Camden Underworld. It was pretty good. Their guitarists pull off some ridiculous clowd-pleaseing stunts live, and Herman Li's hair is about down to his ankles, which is good for a laugh.

Like someone said, power metal fans tend to be a bit more easygoing about everything, probably because they're all so blatantly homosexual (allegedly) and too busy imagining unicorns flying over rainbows to actually get in fights with eachother (scientifically proven).

I've been listening to more of their shizzle, it's so over the top, I love it! Definately going to go now!

I have a friend who owns their first album, and would have liked it a hell of a lot if not for a couple of ballad tracks which reminded us of Elton John. Still good though, pretty bombastic.

Enjoy the gig.

Didn't they just support Stratovarius at the Underworld recently? Or was it the other way around. I forget. I know a mate of mine travelled from Manchester to see it, and it was mainly just for Dragonforce.

Or was that Hammerfall? Gah.

I'd love to go to one of their shows, they have some really good stuff that's really demanding playing-wise.

They may well have played the Underworld recently, but when I saw them there it must have been night on 4 or 5 years ago now. They might have supported or even headlined there recently since they're getting pretty big now as power metal bands go, but I haven't been up to date with gig listings so i couldn't say.

Yeah, both of the guitarists shred like beasts. Not only that but they pull off some funky stunts live like fretting the other player's notes for him, and lots of wacky over and under the neck fretting.

They're just not quite my cup of tea, bit too bombastic and plain happy, with a dash too much Elton John on Valley of the Damned. But different strokes. They're enjoyable anyhow.
