Don't know if any of you are watching the Olympics but the U.S.A basketball team lost to Puerto Rico yesterday.

Let us savour this moment because things like that just DON'T HAPPEN.

Just to summarize the typical American basketballer.
-They don't stay in the Olympic village because they're too good for it.
-Many NBA players avoid Olympic selection like the plauge, where's their national pride?
-The team fielded to play Puerto Rico was an absolute rabble, no team cohesion, no fight, no grit and a total underestimation of their opposition. Arrogance they can't afford.

They'll probably still win gold, but my of my was that an enjoyable game to watch.

Funny how they lost and hell i'll even admit our mens basketball team sucks.

i'm glad they lost. they get paid millions to play pro basketball and then get beat by puerto rico. they should be given a serious cut in pay.

Thank God! I hope we can go back to using high school/NCAA players who really deserve to be in the games!

I didn't think they used pro players this time.

Twas a Dream Team? I didn't see Michael Jordan on that roster.

they always dub it "the Dream Team"
reason being.. the NBA players being head and shoulders above all other players in terms of talent/skill

of course someone forgot to tell em that just having tons of talent doesn't win u anything... gotta play as a team to win :P

Of course they wouldn't want to stay in the Olypmic village, they just drive their yachts over there and stay in those.

Basketball shouldn't be an olympic game IMHO...

Well this year the team was created by committee, rather than the more widely favored try-out selection process. Apparently thats just not the way to go.

Let's say the only thing you're good at in life is basketball. Let's say you make millions of dollars playing basketball. You use that money to support yourself and your family. Without basketball many of these pros wouldn't have the skills to flip burgers let alone make decent money doing something else.

Injuries are a large part of sports. You get injured and you can't play. You get injured bad enough and you might never play again. So basically these athletes are asked to risk everything for nothing in return. I know I wouldn't risk loosing many millions of dollars just to play in the Olympics. Hell I don't personally know one single person that even watches the Olympics let alone thinking about medal counts.

I'm from Cleveland Ohio and I'm pissed Lebron James is playing over there. If he gets hurt our team won't stand a chance. Show me a gold medal and an NBA championship and I'll take the NBA championship any day of the week.

LOL at the Olympics. What a joke. We have baseball and pre-season football. You expect an American to care about the Olympics?

I care about the Olympics.

It seems like the american team only play for money while other countries teams play for the honor..cuz i heard on the sport news that the amrican team have problem with motivation and teamplay..

In a lot of countries if you win the gold it will get you A LOT of money, but in America you will just get paid to do a few endorsments, but those seem pretty rare.

All I can say is, the players in Athens now do not even compare to the original dream team with Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Larry Bird.

I hesitate to even call our team today, the "Dream Team", considering what a difficult time they are having even working as a team.

I think that Americans have too many "World series" in other sports that they have to keep up with that they don't care about sporting events that the rest of the world watches and follows.

Completely agree. There was one and only one Dream Team. This sure isn't it.

im not gonna get into a huge debate with u or any other American here.. simply cause i have American friends who understand and appreciate sports which aren't number one in the US.

but yeah.. just cause so many pple here love to see whats going on in the US does not mean the US is the centre of everyone's attention.. and im sorry if that offends anyone here.

Most Americans care about the Olympics. O.o. Him saying that doesn't make it true.

Hell yes. Its called national pride. Learn it some time. When a American wins a gold medal in any sport it shows that he is the best over everyone else in the world who competed. It raises moral for the winning country and the team bands together as Americans and not because of some stupid contract deal.

Damn, I'm glad our soldiers don't "do it for the money".

Well, Lithuania defeated Puerto Rico last night!! It's definately going to be an interesting competition this year.
