Would a drop B on a 6 string guitar sound good or bad?

it will sound fine if you play the right stuff. Try learning iris, thats a b with the rest of the strings d. Sounds good, might sound a little low at first but when you play the whole song, its cool

Yeah, you'll need some .60 gauge strings or so if you want to tune that low, and you should definitely set your neck and action up properly for it too. I don't think you could go wrong with a set of Ernie Ball Beef Slinkys.

.60 gauge for the 6th string u mean? the problem i have is that i need to play in standard tuning and drop C and B often. right now my strings are the .10 gauge, which is good for drop C and standard E. the reason why i wanna play in drop B so that i can sound like Unearth. ill try it out later.

Edit: doesn sound nice on my guitar....ill stick with Drop C

are you talking about just dropping the E string down to b or going drop d down two whole steps?

Ya u can tune it that low, if all u wanna hear is the sound of the strings slapping against the fretboard really annoyingly.

Going to sound like mud really unless it's set up right as others have pointed out - I have only gotten to Drop C and that sounded quite crap...

I guess a baritone guitar would handle this tuning fairly well wouldn't it? I know that A perfect circle use this tuning (according to guitar world) for a few songs, as do slipknot... I stay in C mostly (deftones and system of a down) deftones self titled uses this tuning, they've dropped on each album!

Adrenaline = Eb
Around the fur = Db
White pony = C
Deftones = B
