For my second year engineering project I'm going to be building an electronic drum kit. Up until now, I've only ever played acoustic drum sets and have never really needed to investigate drum modules.

Was just wondering whether any of you out there had any recommendations on what drum module I could get. Something for beginners which isn't too expensive would be preferable.

:)

Do you mean module as in an interface for the pad controllers to be plugged into, or...?

Yeah Viper, sorry I didn't specify.

Alesis are meant to be good, anybody have any feedback on these?

I wouldn't go with anything remotely similar to what Dog posted.

Alesis is a good brand, you won't go wrong with that. If you can afford it.

I assume you want the entire set, not just the module? From your post I gather you're just venturing into this area, so you'll need a pad set.

From low to high price: http://www.zzounds.com/prodsearch/?q=&cat2=&cat=2501&ob=p19&rl=&rh=&button=search/filter&form=search

I'd go with the highest you feel you can afford. With electronic gear like this (where physical interaction is key) you don't want to chince out and get crappy pads.

I'll be building the actual drum set, I opted out of building the drum module as it would be far too complex for my electronic capabilities. Buying some practice pads and then converting them into electronic pads.

Construction won't begin until October, yet I feel it would be best if I got to grips with the actual module beforehand.

Cheers for the input.

Cheers Vegeta, I'll investigate into those some more.

Viper, I would but I really hate electronics. The maximum I'm hoping to do is connect some wires here and there, other than that my main task will be building the frame for the kit. The project is only covering one semester, so nothing too time consuming.
