Dumb question, but I must ask it.

I'm having a lot of problems trying to get an only game to work (1996). Is it possible that my hardware is too good to run it? Is it possible? I'm a moron remember that.

A lot of old games don't run properly. I remember trying to play Deus Ex and everything was on speed. D:

Like moving to fast? Whoa.

I'm just having bad graphics problems (pun not intended and it's not about the games having dated graphics)

Have you tried setting the executable to run in Compatibility Mode?

Try changing your desktop resolution to 640x480 before starting it.

Duhr, no I haven't and duhr how do you do that? I told you I was a Duhr moron :upstare:.

Try changing your desktop resolution to 640x480 before starting it.

It seems like it does that on it's own most of the time, but I'll make sure it does just to see the outcome.

This happens with a few of my old games. When I start the game it makes my desk top and everything on the screen other than the game window look crazy with all these crazy colors! Like on mushrooms crazy!

It's just switching to another color pallet / video mode.

how do you do that?

Go to the file that starts it (i.e. C:\Program Files\Old Game\game.exe), right click and go to Properties, go to Compatibility tab, and set to run in comp. mode for Windows 95. Playing with the video settings there might help, too.

IMPORTANT:

Whenever you try to play an old game on a dual/quad core, use the freeware tool ImageCfg.exe (Download from here).
Make a backup of your game executable. Then run ImageCfg.exe as shown:

<fullpath>\imagecfg.exe -a 0x1 <fullpath of Game.exe>

This permanently sets the processor affinity of that game to the first core. This fix works for System Shock 2, UT, Unreal (I've tried it). Try it on any other old games that you have.
