Dungeon Siege 3 being developed by Obsidian

I wonder if that means less action and more rpg. The concept art looks nice.

I didn't expect or even want this. I'll probably still buy it though, now I have to go back and play Dungeon Siege 1 which I gave up on back in 2008 when I finally bought it. Plus I have to track down Dungeon Siege 2.

I played Dungeon Siege to death but gave up on Legends of Arrana or whatever... never got down to finding/playing Dungeon Siege 2... It was fun though. I figure by the time the game comes out Diablo 3 will be out or almost out so no one will care.

Diablo 3 isn't on consoles though. I assume that's the entire point of this game.

I quite liked the second one, even though it was horribly linear and click-happy, even by Diablo standards. A more open and story-focused take on it could be great if done right.

Dont want.

And they made Alpha Protocol. Plumetted as a developer in my books.

Need to make some DECENT games like back in the day. Focus on New Vegas and maybe something new from KOTOR or Neverwinter.

funny I was just thinking of DS1 the other day,no other game comes as close to what D2 is then DS1.

Thought this said Dungeon Keeper 3, almost lost consciousness.

Though this said Dungeon Keeper 3, almost lost consciousness.

Me too. ;(

I don't see why Obsidian would have anything to do with Dungeon Siege, they don't really do action RPGs.

Well they tried to do one...

Dungeon Siege Yay.

Obsidian (My opinion of them has hardly changed in recent times) Boo.

Never played any of the DS games, so I can't say I am a fan. However, the concept art looks very nice, and Obsidian could make an intriguing game out of this, I guess. There are other projects I wish they would undertake, but oh well...

Played both the first and second but never finished'em(I'm bad at finishing games these days :()

Maybe I will actually manage to finish this, if it's good.

I know some people lost faith in Obsidian because of AP, but they have done decent games in the past. NWN2 and MoTB spring to mind, *I* experienced very little bugs, and enjoyed those experiences.

Also, I'll have to double check, but I think George Ziets (of MoTB fame) is some sort of creative lead on DS3. This could be good.

Biggest problem with NWN2 and its expansions for me were the terrible AI, both of the enemies and of your party characters, made it quite boring in my opinion.

My biggest complaint was how poor the game engine ran on my computer.

They are great writers, but imo they are in desperate need of better coders and/or better quality assurance staff.

I lol'd at how it said "From the makers of Fallout: New Vegas and Knights of the Old Republic."

They mention a game that hasn't even been released yet, and a game that is seven years old, instead of mentioning Alpha Protocol. Haha, poor Alpha, nobody likes you but me.

Yay even shoddier QA than Gas Powered working on the series, maybe they'll bind left mouse button to inventory this time.

Why doesn't Obsidian play their games before they release? They always have brilliant qualities yet come out unplayable, half-retarded and reeking of rushed development schedules and cut corners.

Hopefully they're better at making knuckle-dragger RPGs than aspie ones.

Christ I hate teasers for fantasy games. "Ooh <anonymous ancient evil> is gonna destroy <kingdom> unless <plot requirement> can be filled in time! ONLY YOU CAN" blah blah blah ****ing hell originality please.

What the **** is an aspie(slang for a person with aspergers afaik) RPG?

Any RPG with AD&D roots or more micro-game than macro.

Think anything from original DND to Baldur's Gate, beth rpgs, and Neverwinter Night's etc.

Sure, they have their niche--but a lot about them is ****ing incompetent and archaic and unapproachable to those not RPG-literate. Some aspie rpgs are brilliant games, but they always come with some cumbersome bullshit that lazy asshole knuckle-dragger types like me don't care for.

Give me a show, give me ****ing Mass Effect 2, Fable, or Ocarina of Time any day.

I won't even get started on my distaste for Japanese RPGs of late. There's category of games that hasn't evolved in over a decade with only a FEW exceptions. It really sucks, and game sales are showing it.

I see what you mean, I tried starting the series by playing Baldur's Gate, ****ing hated it, AI was stupid as shit so you had to micromanage your party, which I do not enjoy.

Yeah I enjoyed it back when I was younger, but now I play AD&D games and I've been spoiled by all this cinematic dialog-switching relatively linear yet tenfold more engaging stuff. Last aspie game I did was Fallout 3, I genuinely had fun. Totally abandoned the main story, found the dog and just hunted mutants and leveled up on my own.

Just me and muh dog.

Unlike some people in here, I've never been that big a fan of AD&D.

Damnit Obsidian, focus on the Wheel of Time game

lol whats the shitty feminine (Japanese) character design?

Yeah, the first Baldur's Gate wasn't all that great. In fact, for me it was mainly dull and boring. With a half-baked story. I didn't see what all the praise over Baldur's Gate was all about. It's a good thing years ago that I decided to skip Baldur's Gate and play the sequel first. It wasn't until a little over a year later I decided to get Baldur's Gate 1 and it's expansion. I only went through both once, and never touched it again.

The Wheel of Time game is going nowhere iirc. Obsidian is supposed to assist Red Eagle with the project, and RE haven't yet found funding. So there's no Wheel of Time game to focus at, atm.

Source. Around the 31-32 min mark. "We are not doing anything yet", and that has not changed as far as I know.

I think it looks fairly pretty, actually, although I despise the shitty slow-mo thing. Combat looks pretty fluid when there's no slow mo going on.
