Dungeons

Except it has quite a few notable differences from Dungeon Keeper.

For one, from what I've read it has less of the "management aspects" of DK; i.e. making sure all your minions are satisfied and such, and just more traditional RTS elements.

I am waiting on a demo before buying this.

Dungeon Keeper rip-off you say? Colour me interested.

Edit: Fifty bucks? Steam has totally spoiled me. I haven't bought a game for that much in quite some time, PC or console.

It's $40 but €50? The 1:1 exchange rates were bad enough but what the holy hell?

As much as I like DK, this just doesn't interest me. I still prefer DK graphics over this.

What is this word "Dungeons"? I feel like you're starting to name a game, and you're not finishing it. Are you trying to say "Dungeons and Dragons"?

Well that was the worst trailer I've seen in a while. "You've played scenes like this before." Hahaha. Oh, nice job with the CG, really channelling the 90s nostalgia there.

A new Dungeon Keeper-esque game?
**** yeah.

Price a is a bit too steep though, definitely need a demo first.

Nope, this one is just Dungeons and Dungeons.

Pretend to be a prisoner serving your sentence in this realistic simulation of life-long incarceration. Go to sleep, get some grub, defecate, shake the bars, stand there... And much more! Each day you can scratch another mark on the wall. The developers spared nothing to bring you real imprisonment excitement! Order now!

These are the references that get me out of bed in the morning.

They should have called it "Dungeons and Dungeons"

All you people jizzing over it, I'd recommend you try a demo before you buy it, since all interviews indicate there are very fundamental differences from Dungeon Keeper, and this is far more RTS-like.

But but... It just looks just like Dungeon Keeper, down to the CGI videos! Nostalgy overload... Must open wallet... Must pay...

What is your dungeon policy?

Looks kind of bland.

Bwuh? I don't see a single person in this thread saying that they're going to buy it. The only people interested in buying it said that the price was too steep. So yeah, they're definitely going to try a demo first.

Fine, you got me, I read shit way too fast and my reading comprehension suffers as a result, hope you are happy with making everyone aware of this flaw!:(

Just kidding, you make a valid point.

I apologize for being dumb.

And I know, I know, one should never apologize on the internet(some people on here have told me), but I'm a pansy.

Played it. It looks like Dungeon Keeper, but it doesn't play like Dungeon Keeper. Laying down a specific pentagram will summon a capped amount of the same creature there. If that creature dies, it will respawn in a minute or so. Thats the problem because with DK you could cherish or torture a menagerie of mercenaries, also occasionally getting the V's by bitch slapping a bile demon. But with Dungeons, the creatures just feel expendable and neglected and bereft of emotion.

Also, I cannot stand Mr Sidekick, I just want to kill him so much

Even if EA did actually make use of the Dungeon Keeper franchise, I would prefer something along the lines of the first game, not its sequel, because I prefered the Dark Atmosphere of the original, not the Humour that saturated DK2 (Also I didn't like the Casino and the Gladiator rooms

It's a tower defense game. You plant down pentagrams, and heroes/skeletons/etc constantly walk into your dungeon.

It's not half as addictive as DK.

Welp, there goes that.

Speaking of bringing back DK though, has anyone tried this?

http://keeper.lubie.org/html/dk_keeperfx_dwnld.php

I remember downloading some sort of tech demo for it a long long time ago, but I haven't seen it since.
I just tried it. The latest version is from 7th Jan 2011. I had to edit the config to INGAME_RES=800x600x8 to get it working, but it was a bit sluggish. Seems like the whole campaigns there.

I'm installing it at the moment, but I'm surprised you have to lower the res, it says it supports 1600x1200x8 as well as widescreen

but it was a bit sluggish
Have you tried this

Release speed mode
This mode is also available in original DK, but here it's
a bit enhanced. Normally, the engine limits amount of
game turns per second. This function allows to stop
controlling speed - the game will work at its maximum speed,
which highly depends on your computer hardware.
To enter released speed mode, press Ctrl+'+' from numpad
section of your keyboard. Pressing it more than once will
increase frameskip - some of the frames will not be drawn,
which will result in even greater increase in speed.
To cancel the effect, press Ctrl+'-' as many times as you
pressed Ctrl+'+' before.

It runs okay for me except when there's more than a few smoke effects, like when land is being claimed or walls fortified or spells researched.

Edit: Fixed all lag issues. Just set the color depth to 32 in the config file.

Thanks for telling me, do you have any tricks for keeping the frontend colors from becoming corrupted?

Haven't experienced that. I have my frontend res set to 640x480x8
This isn't my computer and it's running XP, maybe if you're running windows 7 you need to change something in the exe run properties, you know those options that w7 has.

Been playing some of the usermade campaigns. Most of them are incredibly challenging. But I'm enjoying the 6-level campaign very much.

I thought it looked like Evil Genius with a dungeon. I didn't play Dungeon Keeper. I like the concept though and I think it has way more potential than the game offers. Also, it looks like crap to me... or am I the only one that think that?

I liked the concept of Evil Genius too except for the part where you'd get screwed by traps not executing their purpose properly based on dumb glitches. There are a lot of good game concepts with poor execution around... then it seems like no one ever tries to put together a good rendition of a good idea.
