Dust and Dust2 - card ****ed or all good?

Swapped from a 9600xt to a Leadtek a400 (6800 vanilla)

Im running all levels at 1280x1024 full detail 4xAA 4xAF. All levels run at about 50-100 fps depending on whats goin on, except for dust and dust2. I will look around and be getting 11-15 fps in big patches. I ran driver cleaner and stuff, re installed latest forceware drivers but still no dice

If i drop the resolution to 1024x768 and crank full detail, 4xAA 8xAF i dont have problems. Alternatively if i drop off the AA alltogether and leave the resolution at 1280x1024 it fixes

My question - anything to worry about? Am i just trying to push my card a little too much with those resolutions and settings? Are the dust levels a little more intensive?

First thought is that the dust and particles and shit are screwing me around. Just wana make sure my card isnt broke. Love to get your opinions!

i think ur just pushing too hard

i never run games at 1280x1024. always 1024x768. but that is just my opinion

Everything works like magic for me (minus the water that reflects evarything about the world) but it seems that many users that have the same card encounter problems. -_o Sucky card, I heard that x800 is crap too. Har har har

ummm.... ur kidding right? x800 is one of the top vid card...

lmao 1280x1024 is pushing it? Jeez bud, you obviously aren't in touch with decent video cards. 1024x768 is lame, and unless you have a crappy card I recommend you don't ever use that resolution on many games. Hell, I play CS Source at 1680x1050 on my laptop and get 70 fps with 4xAA. Be dangerous, live a little DarkDamo. And as for you Beserker... x800 pwn5 6800 on the HL2 Engine :p TOOL!

ShanBoi, if you have verticle sync turned on be sure to turn that off. I found several lag spots with VSync on, I'm not really sure what's wrong with it. Also, type this in console trust meh!
For better performance
cl_smooth 0
cl_smoothtime 0
fps_max 61

and these for better effects
cl_ragdoll_collide 1
cl_c4dynamiclight 1

why do i wana limit fps to 61?

what does the smooth and smoothtime settings do

whats wrong with 1027x768? Ive always used it...looks like the screenshtos ive always seen, game still looks beautiful, some people ask for too much

Geforce FX5800 Ultra here, and i've not had any troubles with CS at all running it on 1280x1024 with everything maxed up, and 1xAA (by the way, AA and anistropic filtering will tax your card more than bumping up the res).. as for the rest 512 DDR400, AMD XP2800+

shanboi, in response to your problem, if you like sniping a lot then AA will help because you'll be looking for all the small objects in the horizon and anti-aliasing stops the anomolies caused by a resolution that is too low, and misses pixels which should have less than half of them rendered...
