dust2 problem

For some reason whenever I try to connect to a server currently playing the dust2 map, or a server switches to the dust2 map, I get the error "Your map dust2 is different from the servers" and then get disconnected =/ Is there anyway around this problem without a reinstall?

I would try either of these two things...
Try to repair your installation... I believe you can do this by right clicking on CSS from Steam on the play games menu... (i think it exists.. if not, sorry it's my imagination.)

Or...

Find out which files are associated with Dust2 and find somewhere to download them... if you post the list here, once I'm off work, I will zip them up and upload 'em temporarily to my site for you to download.

delete your dust2 map, then connect to a server. it will download it for you

I was gonna do that but I have no idea where to find the map. I've looked everywhere but no success :-/ I didn't buy the CD, I preloaded the game from Steam if that means anything.,

Just enter a game playing Dust2 and it will download automatically. Anytime you see a new map being played you can download it by entering the game.

It takes a bit and you wont like all the new maps that you end up downloading but it's stupid easy. lol.

well how do i get rid of dust2 then. where is the map located? i would try that if i knew what to get rid of =/

go to Start, Search, Files & Folders, type in dust2, press enter.

The map is hidden in the gcf files, a search will *not* find it.

The only thing I can think of is setting cl_allowdownload (I think thats the command) to 1, and connecting to a server which has the default dust2 map.
