dvd/cd not present/inserted error :(

i have HL2 (CE) retail and when i insert the dvd, my drive reads it just fine. it automatically brings up the "install hl2 screen" etc. when you insert the dvd, then it loads fine, and my cd key has been approved, and its been registered, AND ive uninstalled and re installed HL2 AND Steam 5 times each, and every single time i try to run the game, i get a "No Disc Present/Inserted" error, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and i have attempted the fix on valves forums where you are supposed to exit steam, open steam in your programs folder, and delete the .blob file, and then restart steam and let it update..........STILL DOESNT WORK, i am without hope at this point and dont really know what to do .....the thing that drives me the most insane is that it ACTUALLY KNOWS THE DISC IS IN THERE, IT READS IT FINE, then when its game time, it seems to have NO IDEA where the disc is. i know no one did this to me, or anyone else having this problem, intentionally, im just very frustrated, and i wish i knew what to do but i dont, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know......... ;(

ive had the same problem with the folowing games

Farcry
doom3
call of Duty

farcry compained of an emulator running ??? wtf i only have neuro installed and not alchohol 120%

Doom3 - said could not find disk

Call of duty - could not find disk

All of these games installed fine and worked fine once i used a cd crack, and they all installed withought a problem it was just when u go to play them.. so i would also Be very interested in an answer

luckily i dl'ded hl2 on steam so no disk

I really wish I would have downloaded HL2 from steam. I also have the CE and it wont work for me either. I really want a no cd crack but I dont know where to find one at.

see, for me its just the opposite, doom 3 was up and running in 15 min, farcry...about 20-25, call of duty was like 10, painkiller was like 20, and for each one of these i have had absolutely no problems like this, so thats y this is so odd to me i guess whenever you try something this new though (like online only registration through steam) with this many users and different systems, youre gonna have problems just the way of things

I am having the same exact problem with the Collector's Edition DVD...Does anyone know if Valve is working on a solution?????
P.S. Doom 3...no problems.

I also purchased the collectors dvd and I am having the exact same problem...I have done everything i needed to do to play the game but when its time to, it says 'no disc inserted'. Please post a solution if you find one.

If you have Sonic DLA installed on your comp, uninstall it. I had that problem with Far Cry, its sonic dla causing it. Least thats what caused that problem for me.

Disabling DLA did the trick for me also...works like a charm now....Awesome Game! Thanks to NiteX in another post for the tip!

runs perfect now anyone with this issue take the above advice about sonic DLA, i finally get to play it, my angst is gone now, and to be quite honest all the trouble has been worth it i have audio problems with the 5.1 setting but if i switch it to 2 speakers/headphones setting it works fine thanx valve, nice work

just wondering... is there any way i can get CS:S and HL2 to run without the disc? because im lazy and i dont want to put the disc in every time i play it. it seems like a stupid, insignificant thing, but for me it means a lot. i really wish i had bought off steam now, retail is crap- you dont even get a manual :X
