Hey theres obviously somethign wrong here...when i enter a blank dvd no autoplay comes up and when i open up my computer or a burning program it says that there is no CD inserted

any ideas? :(

Its a DVD Writer, yes?
Just checking!
A blank dvdr, won't cause the autoplay function to come up, since the autoplay requires an autoplay.inf file to be present on the disc, its blank so there is'nt one.
Try opening the burning program first, then insert the disc.
Goto device manager (control panel, system, hardware, device manager) and check the dvd properties, check whether anything is unselected that should be selected.

did u mean the pop-up windows XP comes up with asking what youd like to do, like "burn CDs using ........", not the autorun as in the half-life 2 installer and stuff like that?

Try this:

Go to My Computer, right click on your DVD drive and select Properties
Click on the tab labled Autoplay
Select Blank CD from the list and select Prompt me each time....

This should bring the prompt button in, but this has nothing to do with your burning program saying no CD is inserted.

What CD/DVD drive do you have? (if you don't know it try Windowsbutton+pause(top right of keyboard) Hardware>DeviceManager>CD/DVDrom drive)

What make CDR disks are you using?

Have you tried some different make of disks or ones from further down the pile?

The blank disk im using is a Memorex DVD-R 4.7gb

and my dvd drive - Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device (is that right? =/)

when i insert the disk it is never detected on my computer

DVD ROM says it all,
Dvd Rom play discs only, they don't record, you need a writer for that.
If you had a writer it woulld show up in device manager as a DVDRW.
