ok, ive had my dvd player for about a year and a half. Recently (within the last 3 days) it will not play dvd's (movies or games). The disc starts to spin, and then slows down, and starts to spin, and slows down, while never loading. Also, when this is happening, i hear a slight clicking noise. Does anyone know what could cause this?! The only hardware change i've made is installing the z-680 speakers, and that had no software to install. ;(

dude, it probably broke, just go buy a new DVD player they are MUCH better then the ones they made 1 and a half years ago and they're only $30-40.

Maybe your DVD drive is dying, I dunno. Sounds like it can't read it or something.

In the hardware world, clicking noises usually means death is coming upon that device very soon.

it can still play cd's though, games, music etc... just not dvds

It might use a different laser for DVDs and that could be knackered.

Tangentially related; I used to have a DVD drive (Creative) and it would read DVDs and CDs fine as long as they used CDFS and not UDF. Weird problem expecially considering it was only data UDF discs (e.g. Encarter and MGS2:Substance) and not video UDF discs. DVD movies worked fine. That's what you get for being an early adopter I guess. I replaced it with an el-cheapo generic drive which has brought me no trouble (*crosses fingers* - only had it a few months).

Just out of interest, what happends when you try to play a DVD of the wrong format on a DVD player after the format has been locked. Does it try to load or just sit in the drive doing nothing.
