I have a quick question. Are you able to burn file onto a DVD-R with a CD-RW drive or is there some other drive I need to have? I just wanted to know whether I should buy CD-Rs or DVD-Rs. I perfer DVD-Rs because they can hold more.

You need a DVD burner to burn to DVDs.

Therefore...

You cannot burn DVDs with a CD-RW drive.

If you are looking for a DVD Burner, I'd wait. Sony is said to be coming out with Blue laser technology, which means you'll be able to burn faster.

NOt a DVD just files like off my computer. I dont want to burn actual DVD movies.

Yes, you still can't.

It doesn't matter what type of DVD it is, you can't burn ANY with only a CD-RW drive.
