In the past few weeks my DVD drive (DVD Rom and DVDBurner) have taken a quick downward spiral. It first started when my DVDRom stopped reading disks suddenly, my computer was only reading what was in the DVDBurner tray. Now my DVDBurner wont write, but thats my secondary concern.

The DVDRom , when I inert a disk, I can hear it spinning and reading two or three times , the yellow light comes on. However when I double click it it asks me to insert a disk , and it never autoplays.

Im really hoping someone can help me fix this without having to buy a new DVDRom , since it seems its still in working order physically. Thanks for any help , and your time. If you need me to better describe the problem , Im sure I can.

are they on the same cable?, try removing one , test the other , then swap out.
also try new a ide cable / check for power problems too / got enough horsepower?
getting too hot? start w the basics.. work your way up,
2 drives dying at the same time sounds fishy to me.

also check for dust / etc.. if you use them a lot remember your maintanece

don't forget about your ide jumpers when tbl shooting ;)

Good idea on the cable. I have an Alienware (no lambasting please), I just recently bought a new DVD-R to replace my CD-R burner , so Ill try your suggestion , although unplugging them from the cord to the motherboard is such a bitch. Is there any easy way to do that?

Thanks for the quick response , way quicker than I expected.

if you have 2 ide devices/drives on one ide cable just unplug one drive, then rejumper the other to master, retest. then do the same with the other one, also try a different power cable. MAKE SURE that both drives are NOT sharing one cable from the PSU
might be too much draw with both on one cable..
