Ive seen a few threads about DVDs recently, like the far cry one. Personnally i dont care whether they continue to release both- but DVD PC games should now be default, unless the game is 1CD.
Take an example. the UT2004 CD version has 6 CDs. imagine that? thats a hell of a lot. the DVD version is just 1 DVD however.
And all PCs that are capable of running far cry or half life 2, WILL have a DvD player by default, and if they dont DvD drives can probally be installed without breaking the bank.

so anyway. do u think DvDs should be required for games with 2 CDs or more, or do u find it pointless?

yes, though i dont have a DVD rom. I'm going to go buy one today after school. Only $59.99 for oen at bestbuy. Will any DVD rom be able to run games that are on DVD?

Yes, if the games has more then two cd's im for the DVD, I hate changing cds multiple times. Im buying a DVD player for my comp simply so that I can buy the DVD version of UT2004... and FarCry ofcourse.

Well...if you have a PC that is capable of playing new games, then you almost certainly have a DVD drive. So yeah, games shoulds start coming on DVDs if they need to.

nope....im not gonna waste money on a dvd drive....i have no use for it.

games should come on both....just mark on the boxes wether there CD or dvd.

I think that both should be available, but multiple-CD versions should be slightly more expensive - surely it costs more to produce 6 CDs than 1 DVD.

not really. its the development that costs the money- not the discs.

1 DVD costs more than 6 CDs if you buy them as a consumer... but I'm not sure how much manufacturers pay for them.

just so long as they can still be re-packed and i can burn them onto CD-R's for back-ups and keep my original stashed away. i dont want to buy a DVD Burner just to make a back-up.

I think I'm more bothered about switching, especially when installers make you swap randomly between discs at least ten times. But 6 CDs is where I draw the line, so I ordered the DVD version of UT2004.

Maybe it's just my bad luck... but my DVD drive on my last two computers has buggered up. Suddenly stops reading DVD's but will still read CD's. And guess what, did i miss it? Hell no.... there isn't a single reason to have one.

On the other hand what's the point of them if they're never gonna be used? I remember 5 years ago everyone raving about how all games will be on DVD in the next year. I saw about 3 crappy ones around that time, and have seen none since.

So, yes I think they should start releasing them along side cd's. But would I buy them? Hell no, DVD rom drives hate me...

I watch DvDs on my PC loads. i dont have a DvD player in my room, (my ps2 broke) so the main reason we have DvD players.... is to watch DvDs, probally!!!

They should come on both.
If I don't like switching out cds then I can buy the dvd version.
If I had a PC that I wanted it installed on that doesn't have a dvdrom (main pc or 2nd pc etc) then I would probably go with cds.

That's the main problem with DVDs, much smaller market available to actually buy and install the DVD versions.

I use my dvdrom for data use rather than watching DVDs.
But guess what!? My DVDrom is on my 2ndary PC. My main PC has just a CDRW.

I don't have a DVD drive, but anyway, I'll be buying one soon: USB 2.0 external maybe :)

I've had a DVD drive in my comp for 3 years and now it's gonna see some action! 6 CD's for UT2004? *UCK THAT! I already reserved my Ut2004 SE DVD...now I just need to wait till monday =)
