DVI 2 HDMI = Static sound

I have my pc hooked up to my 32inch LCD.
I am using a dvi to hdmi connection for it.
Although the picture a lot more sharper with DVi, I get static sound from it (with the VGA there weren't any problems). I am using a 3,5 extension from my pc to my LCD for sound.
I turn off the volume on the LCD and the static sound goes away. However when I use headphones in my front 3.5 jack on my pc, I get great sound.
Does anyone know what the problem is, and if so, How can I get great sound from my LCD?

DVI cannot transfer sound. I am going to be using a similar setup soon, though I have not tried it yet. My guess is that since the HDMI carries both sound and video that your TV is expecting a sound stream and giving off static because it is not receiving one.

You should try hooking in your sound separately to the TV and getting the TV to use that sound channel while using the HDMI for video. If that's possible.

The computer is on for hours everyday, will that burn out the LCD?

If the same image is on the screen all the time then it could get a burned-in image. And LCDs last for so many thousand hours so having it on all day will shorten the life span compared to having it on just 1 hour a day. But that is just the way it is (still a few years life time).

Just set it up so Windows puts the LCD to sleep like after 10-20mins of idle. Disable it if you watch a video though. Or if there is an option in your video player to ignore windows LCD sleep setting when playing a video. Otherwise it will turn off your screen 20mins into the video while you are watching. hehe
