Dx 9 with Nvidia cards?

yo yo yo everyone =)
I have a Geforce FX 5900 XT (dx 9 card). And I cant play HL2 with dx9 only dx 8.1.

Maybe this was brought up before but I cant find any thread

either use the start parameter "-dxlevel 90"
or use "mat_dxlevel 90" in the console
