DX Hardware Level

Hey I got a ATI Radeon 9800XT, up until I reinstalled Windows XP a week ago, my card was showing up as hardware DX Level 9.0 and I could have full HDR if I wanted to. Now the hardware level is showing up as Level 0.0 and HDR I can only have to None or Bloom, anyone know how I can correct this? Cause as far as I know 9800xt supports 9.0. Im running the latest catalyst drivers aswell.

Try typing -dxlevel 90 in console.

cheers that worked, but do I now have to add this line to the launch of every other game I play aswell?

Chances are, it's just an incidental bug with Steam, or HL2, and not a system-wide problem. Try running a non-Steam game that uses DX9 functions.
