There's word on the EAGames UK forums that Battlefield 2 Demo servers which were edited to remove the 12-minute round limit, or allow the use of previously-locked weapons, have been banned from the EA master server list, resulting in them not being listed in the in-game browser:

Servers running with the modified python files are disappearing from the server list. Truth be told, I was running one of the servers that disappeared. Apparently the only other people I can find that have suffered the same fate are those that disabled the end-of-round due to the time running out. I have since re-enabled the time limit and was forced to switch the server to a new IP to get it listed in the in-game server browser again. If it's something that EA is frowning on and as such removing them, it would be a good thing to put up in the forums. If it's some other type of technical glitch where these servers are just dropping off the in-game browser, that's a different story alltogether.
I run 2 64-player demo servers and 1 32-player private server since the demo came out. Both have been full 24/7 since demo release. I was only running no time limit mod and my server name indicated that, ie xyz No Time Limit. Both of the 64-player servers were delisted today. I changed the IP address and name to xyz Unlocked. Both servers filled up to max capacity within minutes. About 20 minutes later, both disappeared from the browser listing again. I left the IP alone and changed the names. That did not allow the server to reappear in the browser listing. So whatever method was used, it is tied to the IP address. All the while, my 3rd private server was online and working without any problems. So something or someone is targetting specifically the modded servers.

Come on EA. 12 minute time limit? that's crazy for a demo. When we ran unlimited time, squads can be formed and people were happy to be in squads. The work together attacking objectives and defending flags. They set up ambushes and such. But in 12 minutes, they are barely getting into the action, then the round is over. Help us help you sell your game.

Shame... I agree ones with hacked weapons should of been closed, because in my personally opinion thats just out of order, but the time limit is somthing so stupid to be the demo.. Shame... real shame.

The weapon "hack" was merely a matter of changing a string of 0's to a string of 1's in an open config file.

EA's at fault for releasing it like that, not the curious "hackers" who simply went in and swtiched a 0 to a 1

I agree. quit being hardasses EA. You're going to get your money.

Why the hell put the unlockable weapons in the demo in the first place?

Official statement:

Server De-listing Update
EA and DICE both fully support server-side modding in the sense that we have intentionally exposed a good deal of Python functionality to the end-user, primarily to encourage modders to tweak game types and scoring (on UNRANKED servers) once the full game is available. That said, we have come to discover that two items that were not a part of the demo feature-set were hacked in the Battlefield 2 demo. We consider both of these changes in violation of the Tools EULA that each server operator accepted in installing the server software.

The demo's feature set included a 12-minute time limit on rounds and excluded access to the weapon unlocks. Because some server operators have hacked the time limit out of their servers or hacked access to the unlocks, we have been forced to reinforce our intended feature set by delisting the offending servers. All violations of the EULA as described above will result in a 1-week ban/delisting.

The activities of the obviously active hacking community reinforce our decision to not release the Ranked server publicly with the final product. Our desire is to be able to offer an exploit-free place to play where players can legitimately gain ranks, and collect awards and unlocks. The only way we can offer such a service and protect the Ranked server content is by hosting the ranked servers directly and through trusted partners. The Unranked server tools will be released to the community so that they may host their own BF2 servers, mods, etc.

12 minute rounds? wow, that sucks. no wonder people hacked it.

I agree that it sucks....but all it does for me is make me want the full game more, so i can see their side of it.

I'm sorry we have more fun without the timelimit EA.
****ing assholes.

well it IS a demo. You know, a taster that makes you want more.

You can see both sides, just hurry up and release the damn game..

Apparently the 'locked weapons' are not even the right ones. I mean, the spec ops locked gun is the same, and the US assualt locked gun is a peice of crap. I know they'll be different for every map, but i dont see what all the fuss is about- play the game how it was meant to be played, and then buy the full version like EA would want you to in order to see these 'amazing new guns.'
I dontthink the time limit thing should have gbeen punished tho, the games are too damn short.

Yeah, i did notice after doing my name search for "time" in the filters - that nearly all of them had disappeared. You can still find some though, by blind luck. A few of the servers have no time limit but they don't advertise in the server name (i.e NO TIME LIMIT/ALL UNLOCKED)

I can see that after this, a lot of people will say bollocks to tactics and just piss around.

Thats kinda rediculous in my opinion...

I mean honestly, who here isnt going to buy the game anyway! :p

It only has one MP map and one SP 16 player map, both the same (just the MP has a larger population limit). So by getting rid of the timelimit you're not exactly getting so much more enjoyment that you can live off that one demo and not buy the full game.
