Officials from Electronic Arts have announced that the company has teamed with Canadian record label Nettwerk Music Group to launch a new digital music distribution label named EA Recordings. The label will be used to deliver music clips from the publisher's various games as ringtones, mastertones or .MP3 format downloads.

What do you reckon?
- Just another excuse for EA to make more money?
- or a valid service that you wish other games companies would incorporate?

Definately a valid service; I'd love to have more easy access to this stuff. :)

if they can get to me, full soundtracks of games in high quality i will be pleased .. otherwise, i will no longer stand in the way of the mass mindless ea bashing.

Yaaay, soundtracks to games should be included within the game, not as a seperate purchase.

Every year you can re-buy the album for slightly different lyrics and melodies.

I think I'm with Axy-on this.

[Edit] My reasoning for this is that I'm sure that most companies (not just EA) would subsidise some of the running costs with platform-integrated advertising, which I am fervently against. They'd also most probably try to form an alliance with other music retailers to try to shove horribly commercial non-game music in my face. If I were to use this service it would be to purchase music that made the game special and rekindled the fondness had for the playing experience. The original GTAs, C&C, Duke Nukem (although you could get a lot of those tracks as downloadable MIDI files if you were non-law-abiding) are examples of in-game music that I'll never forget. Oh, and top of the list would be the cheesey muzak from Theme Hospital.

You suck at puns :p

On-topic : The good old C&C days :(
Now that was actually decent music.
*Remembers the hardcore rock music from Renegade*

Agreed. Game soundtracks are tremendously popular in Japan and I have always been frustrated that it is so hard to get them in the US. EA looks to be changing that, but so much of the music for EA games is just licensed garbage that I won't be happy until many more quality publishers follow suit.

...and EA didn't bother to credit Frank Klepacki for his C&C music on either the upcoming 10 year compilation pack, or the recent release of the RA soundtrack on iTunes. Yay EA.
