With all Xen creatures spawning all over the globe and Combine slowly transforming Earth suitable for their life, has Earth's ecosystem been ruined?

I'm guessing probably 99% of Earth's wild life is completely extinct, eaten by Xen creatures or taken by Combine for autopsy.

But there are dangerous animals out there in our world. How many Xen creatures can kill a bear (they can match with a bullsquid) or how many of them can catch a horse?

I think combine killed them theory is better.

Bear + Headcrab = ZOMBIE BEAR

Oh my god that would be awesome!

Screw that "Oh god! Help me!" bullshit... A bear zombie would be like *gurgle* "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWRRRRR!" ...Cept... What about a zombine bear?

My head hurts... :(

I think that guess is off by alot... consider this; 97% of animal species aren't even vertabrates. So that means all of the Mammals, Reptiles, Birds, Fish and Amphibians of Earth compose only 3% of the entire animal biosphere.

Even if you don't take that into consideration, what we see in the games (HL2, EP1, EP2) clearly indicates that Earth's natural vegetation is unaffected by the portal storms, "Xenian" fauna or Combine intervention. That's an entire kingdom of life, unaffacted. I suppose you could say that in other places, unseen in-game, that some species of Earth vegetation have been outcompeted by "Xenian" flora
but that still means that at least one ecosystem (located in Eastern Europe, of course) has been untouched (in terms of plantlife).

Well, regardless of any of that, 99% is a ridiculus overestimation and I hope that you were hyperbolizing.

Also, the thread's title should read; "Earth's biosphere is almost completely ruined?"
An ecosystem is only an area within a biosphere; ie: coral reef, tundra, desert.

Then again... I'm no expert; I can't even do a quote right!

Bear's head is too big for headcrab. Maybe there is some new type of headcrab. There is a forest and wild life in episode 2. I think that there is more than that. How come that someone smart like Combine can't controll dumb animals on the earth?

I'd say stuff is pretty buggered due to the combine's drive for resources. They're draining the seas of water, so i assume they're doing other things as well.

Thanks for summing that up for use. I got realy confused at how its only the ecosystem and 99% of all life, dosent make much sense. Earth will continue on even without humans or combine. So if like all civilizations were destryoed in a massive nuclear war, in a few million years the earth would regrow without us and continue on with all thoughs lucky rats and cocroaches (not sure if i spelled that right)

I'de think the Combine's disregard for environmentalism and general raping of the Earth does more to damage the Biosphere then the xenian life, but saying that, Antlions are obviously extremely aggressive, my guess is larger land dwelling creatures are certainly decemated to extinct in area's where antlions dwell.

The icthyasaur thing is probably one of the primary marine predators now, but there are probably too few to be a foodchain breaking predator.

Yeah the antlions would realy be a problem, but life would eventualy evolve in time to combat the antlions and life would go on as useual (of course evlolution takes millions of years so anything could happen in that time)
