I would like something that can record me playing Half Life 2, and also records the game's sound. I don't want to buy FRAPS, so freeware is what I'd like.
Thanks.

Hi, gonna be a complete noob and ask for download please.

After typing -record demo, and stop, will it be saved as a watchable file (wav, avi, etc), or will I have to do otherstuff?

No. You record the demo first. Then you stop the demo. Then you type in a command to record it in a video format and play the demo. If you watch the video above it explains it very clearly and very slowly.

Have you watched the video all the way through?

Yeah, but I can't understand anything he's saying.

Start with: record demo-name

Stop the demo with 'stop'

open console - type host_framerate 30

Type: startmovie movie-name avi

Choose your video codec from the window

playdemo demo-name

type 'endmovie' to stop recording.

Movie is saved in location shown in video, and commands to remove gun / HUD in video also.

I tried it, it seemed to work, but when I opened it in WMM, and other Video Editing softwares, I got 'Unknown File Format', even thought it was marked as AVI.

Do you have the codecs installed? Like divx or xvid?

Install ffdshow. Download here.

I'm not sure what video codec Source Recorder uses; AVI is just a container. Ffdshow supports "H.264, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, H.263, VP3, VP6, Theora, MJPEG, SVQ3, MP3, AC3, DTS, E-AC3, AAC, and Vorbis". Should let you view any one of those in Windows Media Player.
