EAX problems

I found updated drivers for my onboard sound yesterday and installed them. I never even understood what 3D audio could do! :E That's great, but my card also supports EAX 2. I've got some problems with it.

- In Rome: Total War every sound that comes from a source (a soldier for example) echoes and reverbs horribly. Sounds that aren't sourced like music, buttons and background ambience aren't affected.

- In UT2004, when I use EAX every sound plays at full volume no matter where it is on the map. It will come from the correct direction but sound as if it is right up close to me. It's fun for a while but gets disorientating very quickly. :( I also get some very minor echoing when I use the menus.

Any ideas?

There are problems with eax that you cant do anything about on all non creative cards, afaik.

strange, mine works perfectly:upstare:

@varsity, if its a driver issue it'll be resolved by going into device manager and using the rollback feature to go back to the device's previous driver

It's a driver issue, certainly. But with the previous version I was using 3D audio sounds crap. They have some beta drivers out, I guess I'll try those.

The beta drivers don't work. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens in the future.

strange, creative cards are the only cards that support it fully.

N/m :)
What i would guess happened is the game is trying to use a newer version of eax than his sound chip supports (sorta like someone with a dx7 vid card wondering why the water in hl2 looks ****ed up). I doubt its a driver problem. But i could be completely wrong.
