Anyone care to enlighten me on what this has to do with Einstein? Like a lot of people I know OF him, but dont know ABOUT him. Except E=Mc² and that that played a part in helping create the atom bomb sadly.

I didn't know they could detect gravitational waves yet. That's pretty awesome. Well...Einstein developed the general and special theories of relativity. Special relativity ignores all affects of gravity, while general relativity takes gravity into account.

What the hell Einstein has to do with pulsars...I have no idea.

President was Truman wasnt it? Memorys hazy but yea thats what I read and heard about it. But thats probably his most famous discovery/theory/story, cant actually think of any others, except the theory of relativity as Death Trap said.

He affirmed that light can be classified as a particle in the photoelectric effect experiment.
He did something about Brownian motion.

Also he made a model for phonons within solids. It is called the Einstein model, but he made the wrong assumption that each oscillator had the same energy.
Someone called Debye later came along and made a better model.

Also, he has the Bose-Einstein gas named after him, which is a gas population of Boson particles.
He did a lot of work for quantum/statistical thermodynamics.
But although he made a lot of discoveries about quantum theory, he wasn't very happy with them. He did not believe things could only be described statistically, at best.
One of his most famous quotes is: "God does not play with dice"

He died trying to work on a Grand Unified theory which would link Gravity with quantum mechanics and hence the other forces of nature.

an electromagnetic wave is a particle and has a wavelegth eg a beam of uv radiation will diffract but will also transfer enough energy to electrons when the frequency of the radiation is greater than the work function of the metal that the radiation is being shone onto casuing the Metal to become positivly chaged

Whoa. When it's put like that, it seriously sounds like it was just the U.S. pulling a prank on him with disinformation just to get Einstein to give up his secrets to the military imho?! I love the States sometimes
