First of all I'd like to introduce to you all our new writer, Steven "Gothax?" Ziegler. Steven joins us from such sites as Gamershell and CSBanana where he has produced some fine articles.[br]

Despite only being with us for two days, Steven has already conducted his interview with the Elysium 2028 mod.
Halflife2.net: Elysium 2028 has been in development for a little over 2 years now and your design team has just recently chosen Valve’s Source Engine. What were some of the specific reasons behind this decision?[br]
[br]
Brendan: At the beginning, we actually had the Deus Ex 2 engine in mind, and also considered UT2004, but after a while Source became the obvious choice. It's visually beautiful, very flexible, and the existing support for vehicles was very attractive. We were also happy with the excellent support infrastructure Valve is creating for modders with Steam.
The interview covers their progress so far and some of the gameplay you'll experience in Elysium 2028.[br]

Can someone tell me how an engine can be "visually beautiful" ?? It's the talent of 2D and 3D artists that gives a game / mod its look, not the engine - which is not visible per se.

Hi everyone, by the way :D

Well, I didn't quite write this interview in the last two days... I had this interview handy before the sdk was released. :)

It's still not fully released. Only got the CS FGD and no mod code.

Excellent article btw. I hope there will be many more like it.

Yes, more articles are already being planned to come. Stay tuned :)

In the sense that how good the models and textures look depends on the engine's capabilities...Source takes full advantage of DX9, has support for normal maps, 3d skyboxes, etc, all of which influences the look of the game significantly.
