Email Viruses (READ THIS!)

Do you live in Southern California? Do you have a cable modem and use Roadrunner as your ISP? Is your hostname cpe-72-129-113-135.socal.res.rr.com?

If the answer to the above is yes, then PLEASE DISCONNECT YOUR DISEASED WINDOWS MACHINE FROM THE INTERNET AND INVEST IN A SODDING VIRUS CHECKER!

Over 2500 virus-carrying emails in a couple of days is beyond a joke. I'm receiving them at the rate of almost one every minute, and they're almost all from your machine, usually impersonating people from the Half-Life mapping community. While I've set up a filter, I'm in serious danger of hitting my POP3 mailbox quota. Please sort it out!

(Yes, it's decidedly off-topic and I doubt the person responsible will ever read this, but it's worth a try. It's been going on for the best part of a week now...)

I advise everyone to disconnect their Windows machines from the internet, to give Linux users lag free, family free internet.

Yes, that's what my email machine's running! But anyway. I've set up a mod_rewrite rule so that if that diseased Windows machine visits the MINERVA website again, they receive a Very Special Message.

It is (fairly) polite... ;-)

on a related note, has anybody else been getting excessive junk emails that are around 75 kb and sometimes say something about paris hilton and nicole ritchie (hotmail users)? it's getting quite annoying.

Seriously, switch to Gmail if you're dissatisfied with hotmail. I believe it's gone public already. Or maybe not, I'm not sure. In any case, I have over 100 invites to give away.

LOLZ do yooz guys still use the internet??? In the year 2059 we have better shiz than that crapola.

I say report the guy to your ISP and they'll probably disconnect his machine from the net. The guy will end up phoning them going "how comz I can't connect to the interweb?" then it'll sort itself out.

I remember around 5 or 6 years ago or so I downloaded a mass e-mailer program and sent loads of emails to myself to see if it worked, but my ISP automatically disconnected me. Har har. That was AOL though.

I actually met someone who worked at a business that bought a "spam server", specifically for the purpose of belching out as much spam as possible. I don't remember the specs., 200,000 emails per minute? I don't remember. Good thing he uses his powers for the forces of good!

You know what's funny? I've had two Yahoo mail accounts for over three years, and I've never gotten a SINGLE piece of spam. I'm serious! It's so odd, because yahoo's supposed to be so bad for that sort of thing.

Sorting through my hotmail junk folder is easy as hell, I only really get 5 different emails, but I get about 100 of them. so I just gotta look for one that looks out of place, read who it's from..and the subject..if I know them, I keep!

Its all about the interface. Gmail is fast, clean and its adverts are very unintrusive.

As to the tin foil hat wearers amoungst you, if google are so bored with the internet that they want to read my email, they are welcome to. Stop sending you top secret world domination plans by email if you are worried.

There are lots of computers running an unpatched Window OS, with the users completely unaware of the existence of trojans and such. Like, 40 year old male persons who open the porn.exe someone sent to them.

I've used hotmail for well over 6 years now *WELL over.. O_O* anyway, I've yet to recieve a virus from it. I don't find the adverts "intrusive" I use it for email for gods sake, not to look pretty. If I can read my email, then it's a success to me. If people want to read my shit? *sigh* nothing in there but emails from my sister D:

Pornography sites, their "free to enter" because they make their money from Spam. Hotmail accounts are the most common on the spammers list.
