The Empires 2.0 dedicated server has been released, preparing for the big release tonight. It is being distributed as a zip file in order to support both Windows and Linux and includes everything necessary to run a dedicated server. And since the linux server appears to be causing a crash on startup, They've posted a patch to fix this problem.[br]

They also updated their media section with new screenshots, you can find it here. <s>And don't forget the new version of Empires is being released tonight</s>.[br]
Update : The Client version just released, you can download it from :

See you online.

I played empires when it first came out, but found it confusing.

Will have to give this new version ago and pay a bit more attention :)

Read the Manual, it's gigantic but incredibly helpful.

Nice. I'll be playing this as soon as possible.

Just played a bit, I've enjoyed it so far. But there still seems to be lag at points, not as bad as the previous version however.

Update: Servers with 32 players seem to run smooth even with vehicles.

Just played a bit, it's takes some getting used to but it's really worth it.
Short attention span you have there. Okay, maybe not, but does it have something to do with the number of newbies around?

Everyone's entitled to speak their first impressions, but I think you are not giving the mod a fair shake from my limited knowledge about your play time. How long's the mod been out? It hasn't even been one day. Newbies haven't even properly trained on the game by now. Surely you need to check back later when there are more experienced players before you can really say for sure that it's not worth it.

*Port-mortem note: Apparently I'm going insane as I obviously misread that post. Looks like I'm the one who's attention span has been completely shot.

Read the manual, had several games tonight, even had a go at commanding.

My thoughts, nicely put together, suprisingly smooth, but never really felt like I was having fun, hard to explain why.

Little annoyances were, as an engineer the need for the tool to re-charge, as a driver far to many choices in the vehicle factory, as a commander overly complicated research paths and players very hard to see from above.

Going to give it a couple of days and see if the fun factor improves when more people have got some more gameplay experience, because the manual is not a lot of help.

The first few days are fun to experiment and try things out, do that. The manual deliberately doesn't show every little tip and tactic so you can learn yourself :)

If you're looking for more experienced players, check out the CW, JPL or BSID servers.

As Beerdude said, you'll find more experienced players on the clanservers: CW, JPL and BSID (if BSID has servers online by now). Especially around afternoon/evening.

Also, i think the best part of empires is the choices you can make. Which weapons/engine/armor combo to put on your tank (once you have one, you can just save the layout - you don't have to do it everytime), and the multiple research options are just awesome. As far as i'm concerned, i'd like to see even more, ... many more.
The best part is that's still balanced, even with all these options. That is if you know how the use it. If you don't understand reflective armor for example, you might position your tank wrong and get killed all the time. Experience will teach people how to use everything.

Also if the players are hard to see, don't forget to zoom in or change the camera view. You can see someone's finger nails when you zoom in far enough. And you can just go to the player menu, and select a player there, instead of selecting the real person.

If valiant is commanding this evening on the CW server, you should have a pleasant experience if you joined us.

Downloading, i'll be giving this another go too. I was put off by one of the first releases - terrible lag and not quite fun.
