First of all, to get it out of the way.... Sorry to break the bad news.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Anyways, in a recent developer diary at GameSpy, they say they have pushed the release date out from 2006 (which obviously implies 2007, more than likely early 2007)

The entire quote:

Following E3, Splash Damage and id spent weeks reviewing the status of Enemy Territory. 2006 has been a great year for us, with incredible response from the press and the community. It's also been a challenging year, as the team here has given extraordinary effort towards completing the game this year. Unfortunately, sometimes effort isn't all you need -- sometimes you just need more time. To ensure the quality we want, we've decided to push the release out of 2006 to allow for extended testing, feedback and game balancing.

It also says in the following paragraph that they recently entered beta status, so they have lots of time to balance and perfect the game... Considering that a lot of people are planning this to be a Battlefield-killer, it's no surprise they need enough time to balance and perfect it...

Oh wtf. They're in beta already but it's gonna take them 6 months?

Bah. I was looking forward to this.

Battlefield 2142 might have an advantage with this. People will be so used to playing it, they won't want to bother with Quake Wars.

Even I'm hesitant on which one I'd want to buy, they both look great.

Aw man... well, I guess I'd rather them take extra time and make it extra-awesome.

Oh, for god sakes, this was one of the few games I was looking forward to... And now its delayed?
:(

Good, that gives me more time to anticpate that those cockholes at Verizon might actually get DSL running my way so I can actually play online for once since I havn't played an online game in the last four years.

Splash Damage will take thier time to make the game all it can be, while EA will most likely force DICE to release BF2142 in a hurry, which will means ET: QW will probably be the better game.

Oh WTF, No they didn't! I'm reaallllly peeved. Bah, this was one of the few games I was looking forward to this year being the BF killer.
A thousand curses! Yarrrr!
*continuous banging of head on desk*

It's good it's delayed. I mean extra polish can't be bad can it? Id rather wait and have no bugs than be pushed out way too early (Bf2!!!)

You said it, I remember playing bf2 when it came out, and I could barely move due the massive amounts of LAG!!! Actually that continued until they released like 3 patches.

That's fine with me. Maybe by the time that they release it, Windows Vista will be out and I'll have my new system. Then I can play everything on the highest settings.

Yeah well, at least they don't have a "Release now, balance later" mentality, EA, I'm looking at you. It happend with Battlefield 2, patching for bugfixes is fine, but it really annoys me when developers patch to solve gameplay issues, shows a lazyness in my opinion. So hopefully when ET:QW is released the gameplay will be as how SplashDamage envisioned.

Yeah, get it right the first time, even if it takes a little longer. I have no problem with this whatsoever. It just means 2007 will be even more important for gamers, if that's even possible!

I was hoping it wouldn't release this year since I'm just about to buy myself an XBOX 360 and several great 360 games are just around the corner and something I really hate is having too many good games to play, and even worse on both PC and XBOX 360 will just make it ultra hard to decide which game to play and when. Anyway I don't really trust GameSpy, I still belive it's going to end up released this year.

this sucks ..no this ****ing sucks ass. I'm tired of missed release dates/delays (it had a date of beginning of sept) wtf why is it so freakin hard to meet a deadline in this industry? and no I for one will not pull out my tired excuse of a justification: "more time will make it better" when more often than not when it does come out it's still buggy

I propose that game developers not give release dates till the end of beta (right before it goes gold) it just builds bad blood between customer and developer ..I mean look at Stalker ..constant delays probably will lead to sales in the 10's of thousands rather than the hundreds of thousands had they released when they said they were going to

shitpiss****damn

/rant

why does everyone complain that is will be late out, atleast it shall come out with less bugs than what BF2 & 2142 will. CptStern its ppl like u who complain about products not been released on time, then when they do ppl complain as there is xx amounts of bugs in the game which were not fixed due to pressure from the newbies complaining. Let them get on with the game, and if u want a rushed product wait for BF2142.

any other industry a missed deadline would be the death of the company ..if x company promised their customers a release date and then changed it a few months before release their customer base would probably move on to another competing product ...delays hurt sales whether from projected forecasts to timed around the holidays release schedules etc

vampire bloodlines was released after much delay and it still was a buggy mess, so was Battlefield 2 ..and we all know how buggy that game was/is, Stalker saw delay after delay that didnt fix problems but cut features ...so why exactly do they delay games if more often than not it makes little difference? Personally I think it's almost always a case of publishers projecting release based on tight developer schedules (that they probably know beforehand they wont be able to meet)

Exactly.

Delay != Better game

I really never realised this before, we are those who keep the game development companies alive, we're their customers and when they promise us release dates which later turns out to be delayed... shit anyway even if they're delaying it once or twice people will still buy their products but I think they should lower the pricetag after each delay.

I lose interest in some games because of delays ...delays in fixing BF2 meant that I stopped playing after patch after patch failed to fix the problem ..even if it is fixed I lost all interest ..Stalker is another of those games I barely have anyinterest for ..if not for the fact it's sorta open ended I wouldnt even bother getting it

Every game has bugs. This delay does jack shit except give them more time to dick around. I'll just stop paying attention to this til the reviews come out.

Stern: Delays happen all the time, mainly by publishers who try to push everyone so hard. The publisher, not the developer sets the deadline and does a lot of the decision making (if you watched the Race to E3 special, CliffyB and one of the Producers. who works at their publisher Microsoft, had a long argument about the Chainsaw on the gun... You would think that with their own IP that the developer could do anything they want, but the publisher always has lots of control).

Oh, and yes delays happen all the time in other industries!

Game delays always get the most press though...

bah - I just set aside a chunk of money to upgrade my pc just for this game. Will it still be there by the time Quake Wars is actually released? Who knows.

you listed movies ..how is that "other" industries ..that's one industry

and yes I'm aware of why games are delayed ..I mentioned that publishers impose deadlines

well, good news for me. Because my next system upgrade to DX10 and new mobo next year.

Since hearing this news I find myself paying closer attention to BF2142. I like the sounds of Titan mode and the pods.

EDIT: Speaking of which, kind of OT, but why do we always have to track down a power core of some kind to destroy stuff? Why can't we go old-school and track down the ammunition storage, magazines, etc?

List any other industry and I will find delays. (I could have talked about Vista, cell phone hardware, blu-ray, hd-dvd, etc etc)

The point is that nobody can predict what can go wrong, or they try to take off more than they can chew (which is the case for the games industry)... Delay's suck, and delays dont kill products in other industries like you said. Usually the end product turns up slightly better due to the extra time (not always the case with games though).

Pretty sweet that this will come out around the time Vista will :) Even though it doesn't take advantage of DX10, hopefully they will utilize the Games Browser and other features for Vista.

Thinking the same thing: BF2142 will give my fix of multiplayer until ET:QW comes out.

And @ the edit:

EA said:
To defeat a Titan, gamers must first take down its shields, board the craft and fight to its inner core before detonating it from the inside.

Methinks this Titan mode was added later when news of ET:QW got out. They needed some kind of mission-based gameplay like Quake Wars so they implemented this.

Yeah, Titan mode does seem a bit tacked on BUT according to a dev diary on IGN they were saying they initially toyed with stuff like this on El Alamein in BF1942.

Anyways, power cores and generators just seem so cliche :p I want more interesting or systematic ways of taking down a base for once. Such as taking down certain subsystems and such.

I think it'd be cooler to have the infiltrating infantry have to take down some of the inner automated defenses, then move to the outer shielding so bombers could make passes and cripple the titan's outside weapons and maybe movement capabilities, then the infantry would push forward to the ammunition deposits or gun magazines to destroy the titan from the inside out OR have the option to storm the bridge and hijack the thing to win. I think the option in end objectives would be cool. Of course all this would be going on while infantry and smaller mechs defend the inside of the titan as the infiltrators fight through all of this.

Sounds great but that's way to difficult for the omfgpwnt-crowd.

Well the only required objectives would be storm the titan to reach the bridge or magazines to win. The other stuff is just optional and could aid the attacking team in winning.

Anyways, screw the mainstream crowd. :smoking:
