Enging Error when i load half life 2?

Hey all. I'm new to this site, so i'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Whenever i load half life 2, either of the episodes or portal i get to see the guy with a valve in his eye, but after that, the game shuts down and the following message comes up:

platform error: module failed to initialize

I only installed it 3 days ago, but it's worked fine since then. I'll list my computer specs, incase that helps at all.

Vista Home Premium
NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GT

Yeah, totally legal.

I bought the orange box from Game.

Ah, good. I may have the solution. Go to your game folder, to a folder named platform. There open a folder called steam and you should see a folder called games. Open it and select a file called "PlatformMenu". make a copy of it somewhere in case something goes wrong. Open this file, select all and delete all of the text. Save and try now.

I cant seem to find the folder.

I've looked around the steam folders, but theres nothing there.
I'm assuming that by game folder you mean in program files?

Change your language on Steam to English.
