Ep. 1 wont load

Ok i cant play it but first let me say i bought it of steam with the valve complete pack. Well to get on with the point when i start the game and choose the new game and then the first chapter, when its loading i gets to a little after half way and it just stops and doesn't do anything i have to turn my computer off to be able to get it back to normal. Please help i really want to play Ep. 1.

You have the hardware to run it, yes? Try turning off HDR and try again.

well i know i can play it i cant really remember my specs but my brothers computer is worse than mine and his is working. ill try the HDR and report back in.

Make sure you have direct x9c installed, your graphical drivers are up to date, and that the game is fully updated in Steam (also verify the Episode 1 files in properties).

it worked well nothing you guys said helped i just did something i guess i don't even know what i did (not taking the credit it was just dumb luck) but it worked and i beat the game in 2 hours and 13 minutes. it was so ****ing awesome
