Ep.2 or Portal?

What was better, Ep.2 or Portal?

I thought Portal was better than Episode 2 in many ways. The writing and content was so awesome. And Ep. 2 kinda lost in some ways...
 
Well its kinda not fair to compare them, they maybe first person shooters, but they are both of differnt game play types. I know a that a few people had got orange box just for portal simply because it was a new type of game play that not may had seen before ( even though prey and a few other games had done it before. ) My will stay natural and will not cast a vote seeing as this is not an even comparison. now if you compared portal to a differnt puzzle game, that would be easy :cheese: , but ep2 is not a puzzle game.
 
Pretty hard choice, but since Portal is more like a game suited for me, I chose that.
 
Portal is like free dessert that also happens to be the best dessert you've ever tasted. Still, you want to have dinner first too.
 
err... as oddly as that was said... it was, very well said. well put.
 
If Portal had been longer, then I would have preferred it over Ep2.
 
I haven't beaten Episode 2 yet, but so far I've been enjoying Portal much much more.
 
Portal is perfect in its own way. But I just prefer the type of game that Ep2 is, with the depth and story background it has.
 
i chose ep2 because of the great story it had and the immersion you get with the character. sure portal was fun in its own way but the puzzles kind of got repeatative in a way. also prey has nothing similar to portal. in prey the portals are static.
 
Episode 2. Portal was a pleasant surprise in that it was far more entertaining and well-done than I had expected, but it still doesn't touch the refined mastery of Valve's best part of the HL saga yet.
 
The way I see it is this:

HL2: Ep2 is like a really good dinner: it takes a while to finish it, but it's worth it.

Portal is like a chocolate bar: you eat the whole thing in thirty seconds, and you feel guilty later, but it's worth it!
 
Episode 2, for its sheer refined Half Life gameplay. Though, Portal is an ingenious game, with an unexpected element of plot...
 
Portal has so much to be discovered, and so much that goes unnoticed. I think that's why I like it more.

Ep 2 is nothing that new, part of a story far, far down the line.

But portal has so many directions it could take.
 
I prefer Portal. Ep2 is great, but Portal is better. IMHO
 
I bought The Orange Box on Friday and had about 10 hours of Portal under my belt before I touched Episode 2 on Sunday. I was very impressed when I did load Episode 2, of course.

Both games have exceeded my expectations, but since I haven't finished Episode 2 I'm not voting yet. Portal will be tough to beat though, because it was astounding. I'm not sure it's fair to even compare them, but I will anyways :D
 
I chose ep2, although to be perfectly honest i don't prefer one over the other. They're both amazing games.
 
Episode 2 would have won my vote were it for a better final battle... maybe
 
Portal was new and innovative, EP2 was more of the same (fun but the same).

If EP2 added something cool and new like the portal gun then it would have my vote. But they didn't change much in the game play.

As it's the same epic story (just continued) and the same immersion, it's still more of the same. I'm not hating on the game, just that Portal was the better of the two in my view.
 
I know they're different, but Portal is better. The story in Portal is new. And there's only so many times you can burn up zombies whilst waiting for a really slow elevator.

EDIT: yeah, it is the same story. You can say that. But it's different. You know what I mean.
 
They're both Brilliant. I personally loaded up and completed Portal first, and I've had fun going back to it and trying to complete those challenges (I'm pretty poor at it though). Portal edges Ep2 out because it's new in a way Ep2 isn't, but Episode 2 is probably the more highly polished product.
 
I played Portal before ep2. Firstly i was sceptical, then i enjoyed it alot and it is a good game, a good job Valve did. But i still prefer the good-old epic Half-Life. This game will (hopefuly) never die. As most of you, i was with Valve since HL1, through Blue Shift and Opposing Force, then waited so much for HL2...and then again for the episodes individualy. Portal is good but just can't match with the immerse power HL has in the gamer's hearts.
 
Well, I enjoyed portal more than episode 2, but I wouldn't necessarily say that it's better...
 
I dont want to compare them, they are both needed and GREAT! But if i HAD to vote, Episode 2.
 
Portal.

Episode 2 was disappointing in comparison to the utterly fantastic surprise portal was.
