when i try to launch ep1 an error widow pops up and says "hl2.exe has encountered a problem and has to close". this just adds to the fact that it took over 30 hours to download :flame:

Open steam, right click on hl2, hit properties.
go to the "Local files" tab, and click "Verify integrity of game cache"
Do the same for episode one.
This will find and repair any file corruption (which is what your problem could be)

well i got it to work. i was going to post my system specs when i noticed my directx was 9b
, i found 9c by exploring the ep1 cd. i thought it would have automaticly installed itself, oh well. thanks for the help anyway :cheers:
