It seems that if you try to play Gears of Wars on the PC right now, you won't be able to. This is due to the certificate for the .exe having expired yesterday.

Epic have seriously screwed this one up, get more details here.

If only they had some sort of system.. a system that allowed them to digitally distribute a fixed exe via the power of the internet! oh if only they had such a "Digital Distribution" system.

Haha, I see what you did there! Epic fail! Haha... Ha...

/me leaves thread.

Entering this thread I was expecting a link to your blog. Seems I wasn't disappointed. It's getting old tbh.

Fixed exe, find, download.

Problem solved?

Exactly. Though to be sure, i'll have to reinstall & apply the cracked .exe I have, to make sure of that.

One day, game devs will come to the realization, that gamers, namely those that crack games, ( I'm not talking about pirating Admins) are much smarter than they are. Has there ever been a game that has ever been released that has not been cracked? Of course, i'm mouthing off, but the next time I install GOW & find out that even with the fixed .exe I have, the game does not work, i'll realized that I should have kept my mouth shut. Of course, if this happens, another cracker will come along & crack the .exe again to remove the expiration date.

You are all mistaken. DRM should not be criticised. It is clearly piracy that is hurting PC gaming and not catastrophically consumer unfriendly things like this. Good day.

Damn that's really dodgy.. I actually bought the game for pc but ended up returning it. Glad I didn't keep it now :S

Honestly. . .

is anyone really playing GoW1 on pc anymore? I mean. . . that's good time a pc gamer could spend playing something actually good

It seems the certificate that was used to sign the file in question was issued to Epic and not MS. They probably just overlooked the expiration date when they used it.

They seem to have attended the EA School of Counter-Piracy: "Make sure your products have stupid features that annoy the hell out of legit consumers but not pirates!"

I don't pretend to fully understand all the details of this, but from reading about this issue I've heard people state that the non-functionality after expiry would have to be a deliberately contrived feature - that is, the exe wouldn't normally stop functioning just because the cert had expired.

Would it?

Has Epic actually fixed this yet?

*DISCLAIMER* I haven't checked Evo's blog for the answer to this question *DISCLAIMER*

Me and my friend wanted to do a co-op playthrough, so yes.

This is the real reason the game's universally glitched out: I wanted to play it.

NO WAY RLY?! ME TOO!

Seriously retarded this is an issue at all. Game had enough problems.
