Damn do I feel like a dumbass...I just sent off an email to steam support with my account info so hopefully they will get it back for me sometime soon. Essentially what happened was someone from a steam group I'm apart of called 'the money makers' IMed me, it prompted me first with whether I wanted to accept or not. I did and the first thing that popped up was you need to go to the steam community login cause you have been reported of logging into your account from more than 1 ip(which is true). It wasn't him telling me but it just prompted me, similar to how it says at the top of every chat to not give your password. I clicked it and it took me to the steam community login page..at first I didn't believe it but I clicked on all the links and everything went to the right place, also as this happened I was being kicked from friends..friends wouldn't work so I figured what the hell...now my account has gone bye bye. For those who have me as a friend, you could..I don't know spam the shit out of this asshole or something. Godamnit, I'm an idiot :frown:.

how can we help without getting attacked ourselves?? whats your username??

He's not online. Apparently you haven't been online for 46 mins.

i got phished before too with AOL when i was younger and it turns out they hacked into my account sending porn to just about 1000 people. this father got really mad at me because his little girl saw some nasty porn and was like 6 years old. i kept pleading with the guy that my account got hacked and he finally believed me. all we did was reset my password, so try to call tech support to clear your name before he does something incriminating in your name

Well, I filed a report with them with the date..etc. so I have that on file now. As far as I can see there is nothing else I can do, I can't find any support number to call..I don't think it would be a great idea to just call their regular number anyways..
Hopefully everyone who has me added will get this in time and won't click on any links this guy sends through my account :\

Can't you prove that you are the owner of the games on your account by saying the serial numbers for all of them? Then just ask to change the password?

I just did, and got a voice mail..I left my number so maybe they will call Idk. This sucks... although Dr. Kliener reading out the operator options made me smile...

I lost my hotmail account and Steam account, because of a keylogger. I already regained control of my hotmail, and I'm awaiting a reply of the Steam helpdesk. I'm confident that I'll soon have it back.

The only thing I'm afraid off is that he'll have cheated on my account and I'll be banned from some games.

Yea I was thinking that might happen with me as well, but I think if you've filed for it soon enough they wont pay attention to any of that. Good luck man, how long ago did your account get stolen?

Three days ago. I immediately knew something was wrong, because my IM clients (Live Messenger and Pidgin) auto-log in when started up. This time they didn't. When I saw that I couldn't log into my hotmail, I went for my Steam, but I was also unable to log in. Since your secret question is sent to your contact email, there was nothing I could do.

I didn't know my secret question anymore (account is about ten years old), so I had to fill in this form where I had to give all kinds of information concerning my account (ip address, old mails, contacts, msn name, ...).

When I got my hotmail account back (fast response!), I saw that there were two mails from steam: one for changed the password and the other for changing the contact email.

I supplied the Steam helpdesk with sufficient information regarding the purchases on my account, so I guess it will all end up fine.

I didn't have a firewall on my Windows, by the way. I kind of neglected to do so, since I almost only use my Ubuntu boot nowadays. I have one installed right now, and a scan on my computer reveiled the software I guess is a keylogger.

I hope everything works out for you insano..this is bullshit why don't these people **** off. I was expecting a prompt response but from the sounds of it that wont happen...I'm still waiting for the verification code that is supposed to be sent to my email..I changed my email in time so thats okay. There is no way the hacker can intercept that email is there? I wouldn't think so..

I'm starting to think that I had a keylogger too and that's why when I got on a computer after being absent for a couple of months and logged into Steam, I found out I was VAC banned from Source games.

Unfortunately, I have no clue how to plead my case so I just don't give a **** anymore... a few hundred dollars down the drain.

?? Wow that ****in sucks, maybe you could send out an email.. hell it couldn't hurt..did you repurchase all of your games again?

No damn way did I repurchase any of them, all they have to do is simply unban me.
I told them my story through the Steam Support things and it's like they won't even listen to me.
"NO, YOU'RE VAC BANNED AND WE AREN'T DOING **** ALL."

I asked for information like when did they VAC ban the account and if they could tell me if anyone else logged into it that aren't using my I.P.
Yeah, they didn't show me a damn thing.

Found out late January.
I'm just VAC banned from Source games though, can't play on VAC secured servers.

But, I was planning on getting L4D the moment I had my computer set up... so this basically shit on those plans.
Really don't want to make a new account, I'd have to re-add everyone to my friends list... screw that.

YOUR ACCOUNT MAY STILL BE USED TO PLAY SINGLE-PLAYER GAMES AND MULTIPLAYER GAMES ON UNSECURED SERVERS

Your account may still be used to play single-player games or to connect to non-secure game servers and for games played over a LAN. To find non-secure servers, please change your filter settings in the server browser list to show servers which are not VAC-secured (from the Steam main menu go to the View option, select Servers and then select "Not secure" in the Anti-Cheat drop-down).

You should be good for single player still though, and it only effects Valve games, not 3rd party.

I just received an email from Steam support, and my password has been reset. Now there's nothing left but to wait a couple of weeks to see if I'm banned.

What's wrong with these people? Don't they have anything useful to do?

Not entirely true. Games that are only available over Steam are also affected (such as Red Orchestra).

Nope, I can still play everything else online without any trouble, thankfully.

For the record mchammer, your account still hasn't been logged into since you were logged out.

I got my account back, I just got an email from them telling me my pass was reset.
Thanks to all of you, and also good to see insano got his shit back as well
