Hi-
I’m really frustrated with this issue..

I got Episode 1 and played it though once, and I was playing it in commentary mode on last Saturday night. Sunday comes around and I fire it up to finish the game (I was escorting the citizens to the trains when I saved the night before) and the game tells me “Error: This game is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

OK.. I tried again in a few hours, same error. So I looked up the error on line and found the ‘delete the clientregistry.blog file or delete the contents of the steam folder except for the steamapps folder and steam.exe’ fix on steampowered. Nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled steam from the exe on their website. (making me reinstall everything again.. and lost me all my saves in half file 2 and HL source. It took a while but I did it)
Nothing.
Half Life 2 runs fine. Half Life Source runs fine. The lost Coast runs fine. Episode 1 won’t let me run it.

I opened a ticket. They first asked me to do what I already did. Next day, they asked me to check my firewall setting and router settings. Did that, nothing. Next day, they asked me to remove the router from the equation and connect directly to the cable modem. Nothing. I put the router back, ran the test that checks your ports for steam and passed them all. I told them this, but they haven’t emailed me back..

So today, I uninstalled episode one (delete local content) and reinstalled it. I made sure to actually delete the folder that the ‘remove local content’ leaves behind and rebooted before I reinstalled it.

It worked. It ran for hours.. I was wondering if the thing was finally fixed so I quit the game and restarted it…
“Error: This game is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

Nothing has brought it back.. This is driving me nuts.

The hardware is P4 2.8gig, 1 gig of RAM and a Radeon 9800xt 256meg card.
I don't think it's a hardware issue as it runs great, when steam lets it run.

Anyone have any other suggestions I can try?

Thank you-
Matthew

I figured it out.
My Nostromo software was ‘locking’ the HL2.exe file because it was monitoring it to see if I ran it so it could load the right profile for my speedpad. I switched to manual mode and everything is fine now-
Thanks- Matthew
