Episode 1 - Freezing Problem

When loading up Episode 1, the game froze on the loading screen, and I got an error message that said something about my drivers. So I updated my video driver, but now when I start a new game, it freezes almost immediately and the sound starts looping.

I have already finished the game and it worked fine then, so this is a new problem.

I also tried "verifying integrity of game cache", but still got the same problems.

Any suggestions?

Try increasing the heap size (parameter "-heapsize xxxx" at launch options for HL2/EP1 inside Steam). Set it to around half your RAM, it's expressed in kb's I believe ("-heapsize 500000" -> 500Mb, suitable for 1Gb RAM).
