Episode 1 plot holes

I post this thread cos' I REALLY don't find the answer to the next question, maybe you have an idea :
"how did Eli and Judith managed to leave the citadel between HL2 and EP1 ?"

Here are some points :

a) They couldn't use any teleportation device : the only one was Breen's teleporter (detroyed), and even if there as another, the combines don't have the technology to teleport themselves from/to earth, only to another world or dimension.

b)Vorts, well, ok, it can be an explanation...

c)...I find REALLY weird that Judith, about 30 min later, sent a message about his research(?) from some sort of arctic base (Kraken, Borealis, etc...), having the time to make a new expedition and even buy some new clothes.

d)...Eli, where is he ? Logically, outside the base with Kleiner, in some secret (vortigaunt ?) lab . But why he is not with Judith ?

I didnt' find any explanation about this topic. What's your opinion ?

1) Eli and Judith left the citadel as you chased Breen to the top. I'm guessing you killed most of the Combine before that, so they probably just took the stairs down. And who is to say they don't have teleport technology, the Combine can't teleport within Earth but the scientists developed the technology. That's a good question though.

2) The video of Judith was most likely a recorded message from an earlier point in time. When? No clue. Another good point though. I never really thought much of it/

3) Eli? That's tough because he has the leg and all. Really, the only way you can explain their escape would be some scientist teleport (probably developed by Kleiner) or the Vortigants saved them all, much like Alyx and you. Hell, maybe the Gman saved them, it is all very possible.

I didn't think about judith's transmission that it could be a recording. (However, Alyx said that "she IS in trouble"). Also, nothing is said about the thing Alyx stole from the citadel (and that the combine want absolutely to recover). I would find funny that it contains Breen's mind or something like that (before becoming a new advisor)...

What is Marc Laidlaw's e-mail ? Maybe he could answer this...

Judith probably still has her security clearence in the citadel, so she can just walk on out and talk Eli with her.

It's a coat, they are not hard to find. And again, she has access to combine technology - she could of just got in a combine transport and flew there.

d)...Eli, where is he ? Logically, outside the base with Kleiner, in some secret (vortigaunt ?) lab . But why he is not with Judith ?

Have you seen Eli's leg? As Kleiner said they have setup lots of little bases and camps outside the city, so he could be in any of those.

That people are too quick to call "plot hole" without actually thinking it through properly.

........

Well, it's not really a "plot hole", I'm sure Valve knows what must be done. But, I find very frustrating their way to ask so many interesting questions (G-man, vorts, ...) and not developping them. That game would be so much...

6 hours have passed.

Eli and Judith escaped via Breen's escape pods.

Eli is at an outpost outside the City.

Judith went to the Arctic.

Does Valve even answer the emails any more because I have emailed them about 5 times and never had a reply once. :(

Alot of people assume City 17 is in upper Europe...so that gives Judith enough time to head up north into the cold regions, while it gives enough time to Eli and Kleiner to retreat to a rebel base out into the country.

why? I have not sent them in conjunction obviously.

Yehp, I have a few from Gabe and Marc

Also, I would scan it in but it's not allowed, Raising the Bar has a map between City 17 and Kraken, one of the routes also says "by plane" it is easily possible she flew over there. Or even went back to a resistance base somewhere and used the transporting technology Kleiner had developed.

But if you can get a copy of Raising the Bar I suggest you do, it doesn't answer the main questions but it has a lot of clues and clears up a lot of confusion.

Then why didn't the rebels try getting to Kleiner's transportation device to get out of City 17, rather than the trains? Same with Gordon and Alyx...Any reason they took the trains?

Trains can transport more people at a time than Kleiner's teleporter even if it can do the job faster. Plus that fluke with Freeman probably meant the teleporter was never inaugurated for standard use. Finally in theory, all those people that would wait for a teleporter spot are sitting ducks for any surprise Overwatch raids. In the end, the commuter train system was the only efficient way to evacuate City 17's population in time. Even if the teleporter was in use, it's common sense to keep alternate methods of transportation in use in the event something goes FUBAR for one method such as teleportation.

no one knows how much time has passed since the explosion atop the citadel

was probably a couple hours since alyx has all her shit together with the monitor set up and everything...

Dont forget mossman knows her way around the citadel so escaping a safe distance would be pretty easy

plothole filled

Because they've nowhere to go with it?! You need something on the other side and besides, Kleiner isn't in his lab, and it's probably trashed.

Hmm, remember at the end of half life 2 in Breen's office when Eli was captured with you, and then you and him were freed and Alyx spoke to him breifly before you continued on. Well from that until the end of the game I say he had about 20 minutes to get out. Also, who said the time between HL2 and Ep1 was 6 hours?
Because that doesn't make sense, the explosion can't just stop for 6 hours.

The explosion DIDN'T stop, by the start of Ep1 the explosion you caused had already happenned, and striders etc. had been wondering around for a while.

The core meltdown was something that was started, deliberately, after the G-man removed you.
