Gamespot UK have posted an interview with Valve's Erik Johnson discussing Dota 2 and the future of the game and professional players.
Erik says that Valve will not be concerning themselves with running series of tournaments throughout the year and they're hoping the community will be able to host their own tournaments with the tools Valve has provided. They also won't be tying teams down with any kind of exclusivity contracts.
Also mentioned in the interview is Valve's efforts to support pro players outside of just tournament prizes. So far they have added the pennant items to the Dota 2 store. By purchasing a team pennant you can show your support for a particular team and a cut of the money will go to them as well. We should expect more moves like this from Valve in the future as Erik says, with regards to helping the pro teams and players form more direct relationships, "We don't think we're there yet, but pennants were a good first step."
