error 1334 problem.....

When the warning comes up it specifically states that file hl2.ico1 cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file hl24.cab. I did a search on the disk through windows and this is factually accurate because the file is actually in hl25.cab. There is no hl24.cab.

Where exactly does that leave me.

that happened to me when i told it not to install CS:S....but then it was all good.

so if thats what you did aswell just install CS:S. >_<

Ya I just figured that out too. Still can't get the game to run though even though its fully installed.

ugh wtf i'm getting a very similar error where

"The file 'base_source_shared_sounds.gcf' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. "

1) that file is indeed in hl24.cab
2) hl24.cab is on the proper disc, in the drive at the right time so why the hell won't it read it!?!?

oh yeah, and i've tried it both with CS:S and w/o niether work nor did reinstalling steam work...anyone else have this problem?

swizzel, i have the exact...exact same problem...i've tried everything to get the thing to install...changing networks, new dvd drive, returned for a different one...the whole ball of wax...i couldn't get the thing to go after 7 hours of working with it...BUT it did work on 2 other computers..which really pissed me off. i dont know what to do..any help from anyone would be appreciated

I had the same problem too, which seemed to be a disc-corruption.
You can try to switch to a different cd/dvd drive if you have two of those (putting the disc in the dvd recorder solved the problem for me).

yay i'm not the only one...i tried 3 different drives and 2 different computers and got the same problem...tho on 1 of the drives instead of giving me the error and crashing it just drops the install to about 5KB/s

i'm going to see if i can exchange it for a different cd tomorrow but yeah...other than that i have no idea

It positively absolutely will not find this file.

The option to install counterstrike makes no difference.

*Very* disappointing.

Back it goes today...I'll try a new DVD tonite.

i began with the cd version of the game and had the same errors, and i also had the same errors when i returned it for the dvd version...so i'm not sure that it will help you guys out. i'm lost as well...

Where is there a solution to this?

I've logged in and searched but still no definitive answer.

Do I;

1. Update steam before trying to install?

2. Make sure the c/strike install box is checked?
(why on earth they dont use a tick if thats the case??)

3. stand on my head with my fingers crossed?

im havign problems with the dvd problems ... not the missing file thingy .. your having ... but i get nothing at all! no windows load up ... regardless of how many times i re-install it

installed the game onto new pc with no prior steam files.

It installed fine.

for me at least it seems this problem is something to do with incompatibility with existing steam files.

I think pillar12 said somthing similar. Kudos.

Tonite i wipe steam from my home pc and see if a clean install will do it...

Looking at the 4 different cab files, hl25.cab contains the file that its looking for in hl24.cab - common sense would dictate this is a problem with the setup file... Although, its hard to believe they rushed it that much they didn't even test installing it...

Ok, this worked for me:

Uninstalled old vesion of steam and reinstalled the game - which installs steam first.

Bingo.

Install took 10 minutes, followed by 20 minutes unlocking the game files with steam.

i will say this : despite all the hassle, Half Life 2 rocks.

i got simlar error actually 1355 was firmware version with mine i actually went from f501 to f500 a degrade worked fine then.
