error installing HL2, can someone please help?

I am getting to disc 5 and then getting the ixofilecopy error. I have seen others on here with the same problem but have not seen a real solution. I just purchased the game tonight and really want to play!!! I saw some people talking about service pack2. I do not have sp2 but i do have the latest windows installer 3.1 redistrib.... i dont know if that makes any difference but if someone could point me in a direction i would be very thankful.

not sure how to solve that one but you could just download steam and install it that way.. all ull need is your user name/password or if you havent setup an account yet your cd key will work. You'll never have to use a silly disk again.

that's odd, when hl2 first came out, installing it from cd's was shitttt and alot of ppl had issues. downloading it from steam for teh win. but yeah, other than that i dont knowwww :O

Maybe the CDs is messed up, can you return it to the store and get a new copy? Oh and if you have any cd/dvd-copying software installed like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%, uninstall it.
